I'm not sure if you understand what a fusion drive -is-.

It is not "one drive".
It is TWO drives, melded together by software.

The iMac's "1tb fusion drive" is actually:
- a 24gb PCIe flash drive (SSD)
and
- a 1tb platter-based HDD

Because of "CORE storage", they appear on the desktop as if they were just one drive.

A word of caution:
Apple has (for their own reasons, probably $$$$) "shrunk" the SSD portion of the fusion drive on the iMac from the previous 120gb size down to 24gb.
It will work OK, but I sense not as speedily as did the earlier 120gb version.

For this reason, if you get a new iMac, you should give serious thought to spending just a little more money for the "2tb fusion drive" model.

The 2tb model has:
- a 120gb PCIe-based SSD
and
- a 2tb HDD.

Double the storage space and probably much nicer performance for a little more money.
