My sister bought her 8GB on Saturday 7/12 and it was 345 build and I just got my 16GB White on Monday 7/21 and it's build out of the box is 347.

I will say this, my first gen iPhone is much more buggy on 2.0 than my new 3G iPhone for what it's worth.

I bought my phone on launch day and it had that nasty keyboard lag almost immediately and it recurred quite often. After applying the 347 update it still happened but with far less frequency. My wife and son picked up their phones yesterday and I've neither seen nor heard about it happening on either of their phones. Curious, I checked and they had 347 out of the box.

Why is having a newer firmware out of the box such a surprise to you? I mean, I could see being surprised at finding a BlackBerry Curve in your iPhone box, but to think that Apple would load an older firmware on newly manufactured devices is a little silly.

Seriously what is wrong with you people? Can you not read or you are just ignorant? If they are NEWLY manufactured iPhones with .347 firmware they are not part of the cluster**** launch phones that have a ton of problems. I mean cmon people. How does that have to anything with your reference to a different phone in a different box?

Well lets see, if they started making them with .345 firmware with tons of issues such as light leak, dust under screen, uneven power buttons, dings in the paint, scratches, gashes, and the like, and now the firmware OUT OF THE BOX is .347 and they DO NOT have light leaks, dust under screen, uneven power buttons, dings in the paint, scratches, gashes and such, do you think it could possibly be a new batch, hence the whole purpose of this thread?

You're still wrong. Mine, I got it 2 days ago, and has a speck of dust under the screen that I can only see under direct sunlight. And it's .347. So stop making guesses that the manufacturing is different suddenly. Most people are having no issues with their iPhones. And it's pure conjecture to say that the launch iPhones have a ton of problems.

Well,

I just exchanged my iphone 16gb due to the duff battery. The genius at Apple plugged it in and instantly said we have a problem and exchanged my phone.

Now the reason the I mention this is that I had a look at my firmware and it was 347 which I thought nothing of as I updated my old one to it anyway. However this is the strange part.

I no longer suffer for the text message lag.
I no longer suffer from contacts taking an age before I can scroll.

Whats different? Hardware? Software? Also the ringer switch used to rattle a little bit when I tapped the screen next to it. The new one doesn't.

Its not conjecture when I am on my FOURTH iPhone 3G. All of the first 3 were crap with .345 and this one isn't and its .347 and it sucks if you have dust under yours but why don't you replace it? Also, what is the point of this forum if not for speculation?

My web browser reads "http://forums.macRUMORS.com" how about yours?

EDIT: And since its conjecture it appears likely to be true, not proven though...

@ WilliamG - Oh well I guess he is hallucinating too? It must be some part of the reality distortion field. Or maybe a massive conspiracy for us .347 OTB owners because we really are that much better than you...

So explain to me why my phone with absolutely no problems at all came with 345 out of the box. Maybe the firmware fairy at the factory downgraded mine to 345 just to mess with everyone. :)

EDIT: Ok, I partially take back part of the "absolutely no problems at all". I probably should have phrased that "absolutely no hardware issues at all". My phone still suffers from the same stability issues that all of the 2.0 firmware releases suffer from.

I'm not saying anything like that at all. I am saying that it appears to ME that the "bad" batch of iPhones so to speak have been sold, so now they are moving on to new stock. I don't for one second doubt that people have been getting iPhone 3G's without issues. Just for ME this is the first time (out of 4) that I have not had one with an issue, and this one happens to have .347 on it. I wish I got the first one with no issues but alas it didn't happen that way...

EDIT: The issues I am referring to, for me at least are hardware issues.

I realize it's tough to accept the whole world doesn't revolve around you. But to suggest that in the last week that Apple's manufacturing has changed is pure madness. Especially based on YOUR experience, with zero proof. I know a lot of people with .345 build iPhones with NO problems at all. And as I said, mine's a .347 and isn't perfect. And let's not forget one man's perfect is not always another's.

Gosh what a pointless thread..., and looking at your post history, you do seem a tad paranoid about... well... every product you've ever bought it appears.

Just exchanged my iPhone 3G 16GB which I got at the Apple store on Regents Street in London. Had battery and 3G reception issue and contact lag. I gave it to the Genius Bar and he spent 2 minutes with it and went to get an exchange one. It is 347 out of box. Restoring now...let's see...

I have a launch day white 16gb........no hardware problems whatsoever...

Your officially the stupidest person on this forum. Am I suggesting that Apple's manufacturing process changed? Well if you mean by better quality control then yes. Oh I guess I must be in the 1% that is affected by Apple's acceptable failure rate AND the 1% that MobileMe isnt working for. Wow I do have bad luck.

By the way since your looking at my posting history, do you want to f*** me? Because that's kind of uhh stalkerish there Mr. Gates.

Firmware changes are not necessarily related to hardware manufacturing changes. There is no reason to assume that a firmware change means anything except that the firmware itself was updated. This could be as simple as grabbing all the first run phones still in a warehouse and updating them to the new firmware. It happens all the time on other phones. Jumping to a conclusion that some sort of QC or hardware change has happened at the same time is a big leap.

I agree, this thread is all about the placebo effect. The buttons even message his fingers now with this new and improved phone.

C'mon, the production line didn't change in 2 weeks, they just update them as they prep them and use whatever the latest software happens to be.

OK so your telling me I hallucinated the past 3 iPhone's I had for a total of 4, that had network connectivity issues, raised glass with dust under it, then they had to give me a white one with raised glass because they did not have black ones and then one with bubbled paint on it?

And your also telling me I scammed 3 geniuses and wasn't on the phone with Apple corporate for 3 1/2 hours plus four visits to the Apple store? Unfortunately it doesn't massage my thumbs but would really like copy & paste first thank you very much.

I don't know why everyone is getting their panties in a bunch, this thread wasn't meant as a "my iPhone is better then your iPhone" thread. Can't we all just get along?

I picked up my black 16gb from the Costa Mesa, Ca store on 07/21 and it has 347 out of the box.

we should really start seeing what the serial numbers are:

Serial #:88830******

5A347 OTB

I picked my 16gb Black 3g up on launch day and it came with 345 out of the box. I am very nitpicky about my devices, but this one did not have any dead pixels, no raised glass, no light leak or dust under the screen. I updated it to 347 and I still have contact app lag. This is a normal fact of life with 2.0 and is not different on 15 different iPhones I checked out. I am inclined to think that anyone who says they don't have the contact app lag with the new phone may just not be noticing it.

no, he's not saying you're hallucinating about those things.....he's saying you're hallucinating that your latest phone doesn't have any of those issues since you noticed the firmware was updated.

And what I'm saying is that it could still be from the same manufacturing line w/ the same issues as before, but you got one that wasn't messed up and coincidentally had an updated firmware.

BTW, I got mine on 7/15 w/ 345 and absolutely none of the physical flaws you are describing.

Just took my Launch iPhone back today for a dead pixel issue got a replacement that was .347 but had specs of dust under the screen so i exchanged right there he took out another which was perfect again but with a Giant Strand of hair under the screen and then he opened another which is Okay great screen but the back of the phone isnt flush with the bezel causes some rough edges and 345 btw. After this ill wait it out if i decide to change it again
