with every great product also comes flaws, the ipt 2g is just a new animal for hackers to dissect, as of right now the the ipt 2g isn't possible to be jailbroken, but im sure jailbreaking it (as well as the 3g iphone) will be possible in the near future, just give it time, they've made progress its just slow....

trust me i want it jailbroken just as much as the next person, :D

personally yes sumtimes if im talking/typing fast i do. do u say cannot over cant or do not over dont? well i certantly dont. yeah but back on topic blog.iphone-dev.org or chronic-dev.org/blog/ will prly be the first places with the jailbreak.

Actually, why would it matter if I said cannot over can't or do not? Those are real contractions, iTouch isn't.

I have answered this question about five times in this thread, I believe.
I could be wrong and just getting confused because I have to post this in so many other threads.

Anyways... Yes, the 2G iPod touch (2.1.1) is impossible to jailbreak.
Although, it is predicted that the 2G will be jailbreakable once 2.2 is released.
Hopefully, 2.2 comes out at least by January at MacWorld 2009.

So, they've done 2.1, when can we expect 2.1.1? I wanna try out the whole cracking thing

Can ANYone tell me how to jailbreak my iPhone version 2.1, Ive never done this but it looks cool and Im getting kinda of bored with my iPhone...almost to the point that I want to buy a Blackberry Bold, but I know my phone is way better.

Chronic said that Jailbreak wont be possible with 2.2 release beacause is something about the processors GID decryption and so on.

Lets hope some one finds a xploit so we can have our iPods jailbroken

Wrong thread for this, there are a few ways to jailbreak an iPhone with 2.1
First of all, search.
And we have a couple official step by step threads.

iPhone Dev Team:
We are not working on the iPod Touch 2G right now, we certainly have interest in this platform as we have mentioned before and we have done some preliminary analysis, but currently all eyes are still on the iPhone 3G, we hope to pick up work on the iPod Touch 2G sometime in the near future and when we have any updates relating to this we’ll blog about them here.

Mod Note:

A lot of posts have been deleted from this thread. This is mainly due to iPod Touch vs. iTouch bickering. This is needless and has become quite tiresome over the past months or so. It generally only serves to derail the thread and in general any posts about this issue are removed as a matter of course. If you see such posts please report them

if you have a 1st gen ipod you should still be fine as the dev team have proven they can jailbreak the 2.2 beta.

the jailbreak for 1st gen iPods is a hardware based exploit which apple cannot fix in the 1st generation iPods. This hardware exploit was removed in the 2nd generation ipod touch.

so needless to say when 2.2 comes out 1st generation ipod touches can still be jailbroken it will just be a case of waiting for the dev team to release a new version with bundles of your favourite choice of jailbreaking be it quickpwn or pwnagetool

Sorry if this has been answered in a new thread somewhere, but has an iPod Touch 2.1.1 jailbreak been released yet??

No.
Currently the dev team is not going to find a way to jailbreak 2.1.1 since 2.2 is out.
They are attempting to jailbreak the 2G iPod touch running firmware 2.2

depends which dev team you mean, the iPhone dev team have put 2nd gen iPod on hold to unlock the iPhone 3G. Chronic dev team are still trying to find a way to exploit the iPod Touch 2g progress updates can be found here: http://chronic-dev.org/blog/

Oh, I was hoping maybe that meant it was jailbroken.

The Dev Team has jailbroken the ipod touch 2G but it hasn't been released to the public yet because there are still some issues with it (the main one being that it is tethered, meaning that if you were to turn your ipod touch all the way off, not in sleep mode, then you would not be able to turn it on until you connected your ipod to a computer and installed a patch again.)

Jailbreaking is hacking/customizing the firmware.

Actually the jailbreaking itself really only has to do with the OS, so it's software. The problem is getting the ipod/iphone to bypass the signature checks and use the modified OS.
