What improvements, if any, have users with the original model found with the update?

Nothing major besides the list on Apple's site. The baseband hasnt changed. You can now toggle between 24hr/12hr clock, New EDGE/GPRS icons and thats all i've noticed so far besides the snappiness

Your iPhone is still unlocked. The updates doesn't affect the unlock. Just the OS is updated. Was working for me also with the update from 2.0.1 to 2.0.2.
