My Wife and I have the iPhone 3G we bought it the same day

She has the old update and I have the 2.1 update.

Side by Side:

MINE vs HERS

Mine haves 5 bars and the icon of edge
She haves 3 bars and the icon of 3G

In my office I used to get 3-4 bars with 3G, now after the update I have 5 bars but it switchs from E to 3G a lot.

I had the 'O' yesterday

What's up with that? I touched the 'O' and it went to edge. Maybe they can't spell.

Are you using an old SIM card?

I just started another thread about network outages in Toronto. While I was on the phone with Rogers Wireless regarding this problem, they told me that I may also be experiencing network problems because I'm still using my old SIM card. They told me I should get a new "4000-series" SIM card, because the old one conflicts with 2.1. Are you guys still using your old cards?

I travel quite often between the major metro areas of Philadelphia and NYC (mostly lower Manhattan) and have seen a significant and consistent improvement in my 3G signal since the update. Even in my own apartment building, I have gone from having 1 bar 3G in my bedroom with calls dropped 20-30% of the time to not having a single call dropped since the last update.

Also, when traveling on business, I am working in a range of ground level offices to the upper floors.

I'm experiencing this problem with my 3G iphone as well. Sometimes I'll be in my house where I know I have 3G coverage and my phone will be on Edge. Turn airplane mode on and then off, it goes back to 3G. 2.1 has not improved this problem in the least, although it definitely shows more signal bars when it's on 3G (we all know that doesn't mean much though).

From what I read here, owning an iphone 3G is hard work. Having to politely ask your phone to look for connection every few minutes sounds something most people would find too much hassle. Is it not?

Putting Apple and O2 together in one product seems to have proven a very bad marketing decision...

Glad I stayed with 2.0. My phone locks onto a 3G signal and it stays until I go out of range. I must be one of those people tying up the tower making others switch off to the 1995 EDGE network. :p

This is the same results i am getting.

Is there a way to go back to 2.0.2.

At least that way I can use 3G consistently.
