Hey all,

I have a question about my 2.33Ghz and it's 3MB RAM limit. Since RAM's so cheap I've been considering upgrading from 2 gig to 3. This would involve replacing one of my 1 gig sticks with a 2 gig from crucial. However, I assume that the current 2x1gig sticks are matched, and thus get a bit of a speed boost. If I replace one of the 1 gig sticks with a 2 gig, they will obviously not be matched.

My question is: is the RAM "knitted pair" matching all that important? Is it reason enough that I wouldn't want to upgrade to 3 gig, or is it not a big deal? Thanks!

Well, though you're getting matched RAM now, @ 1+1, and getting a speed boost, the boost from 1GB increase by 2+1 is greater than the boost. Hence, 2+1>1+1. Or you could go 2+2 for about 3.3GB of usable RAM by your 2.33 unit.
