If you can't tell the difference between driving 65mph vs. 67mph
And 67mph will get you from New York to Los Angeles 2 hours faster than 65mph!I can. Latter gets me a speeding ticket![]()
If you can't tell the difference between driving 65mph vs. 67mph, you won't tell the difference between 2.4 vs. 2.5. but to answer your question, no its not possible to get the 2.5 with 2GB of RAM. unless you buy it used from someone that took out 2GB.

Are you sure you didn't buy an earlier generation MBP, as opposed to the unibody? If they were new, why would they "just want to get rid of" them? Something sounds fishy here. Even with an education discount, the MBP starts at $1899. There's no way you bought a new unibody MBP for $1199. Check your model number. It is possible to buy a NEW MBP 2.5GHz w/250GB and 2GB RAM, at many of the college/university campuses near you. I just bought one last week for $1199 + HP Printer + AppleCare for $1543 OTD. Some of these campuses just want to get rid of these MBPs, so they are opening it up to the general public. No school ID required...

Thanks.... not enough coffee. This is what threw me:The dude explained he got a previous generation MBP. The current unibody is a 2.53ghz, not 2.5ghz.
... so I naturally thought NEW, without thinking about the 2.5 vs 2.53.It is possible to buy a NEW MBP 2.5GHz
Both the early 2008 and the unibody use Penryn processors. You must be talking about the unibody 2.53ghz not the 2.5ghz penryn right?
Then, when SFStateStudent said they could get a NEW MBP, I thought NEW, as in the newest MBP being offered, as in the unibody, which can't be bought for $1199 anywhere, with or without an education discount.Dose anyone know if there is a way to get a 2.5ghz mbp with 2Gigs of ram and the smaller HDD?
Many people have referred to the 2.53GHz unibody as 2.5, even though it's not technically correct. Thus, my comments. It is possible to buy a NEW MBP 2.5GHz w/250GB and 2GB RAM
The 2.5 MBP wasn't manufactured in late October 2008, but in February 2008 and discontinued in October, when the 2.53 unibody was released.Yup, I've got the MBP 2.5GHz Penryn 250GB 2GB that was manufactured in late October '08.
Don't you have a 5-10mph allowance?![]()
Yeah, but our speed limit is 55MPH.
The 2.5 MBP wasn't manufactured in late October 2008, but in February 2008 and discontinued in October, when the 2.53 unibody was released.
Your particular MBP may have been built then, but the manufacture date for the model is different. Check Mactracker:Correction: BUILT Late September - Early October '08 Shipping: Late October '08
To OP: Yes you can get the last generation models with 2GB of RAM @ 2.5GHz. The new unibody machines only come with 4GB of RAM @ 2.53GHz.
Not true. Mine according to Coconut identity***** was manufactured in China the last week of NOVEMBER 2008 less then 3 months ago . I bought mine this month. They were still being made apparently when unibody was out.The 2.5 MBP wasn't manufactured in late October 2008, but in February 2008 and discontinued in October, when the 2.53 unibody was released.

I'd be really interested to know where you can find an early 2008 MBP new, not refurb and not used.Who the heck said anything about refurbished? I bought a BRAND NEW MACBOOK PRO 2.5ghz. I don't buy refurbished. ever.
