2 Apple IDs with same copy of iTunes

I have two Apple IDs. iTunes on my MBP allows me login with any of my IDs and download music. My other computer (MBA) on the other hand says it can be associated only with one Apple ID and I cannot use the other for downloading music. I understand the restriction, but what I don't understand is how my MBP can be used with any of the two IDs?
