Pulled my new blue 128 out of the box yesterday. First Impressions.
1) Fast...dang fast. Maps, websites, downloads, emails, fly through this thing. It's night and day when compared to all my other devices. Fast Fast Fast
2) Set is a pain of course, type in your ID and password, click restore from icloud and every family members old phone numbers, kids school contacts, tons of dated apps etc pop up. I could have done this one better I know...I wish I set up as new, kept it off the cloud and hand entered everything to keep it clean.
3) Battery - not as great as I'd hoped. It did last about 6-7 hours surfing the web, setting up email accounts, downloading topo maps etc. The battery does drain but it takes a while...
4) Camera - I can't freaking believe this camera. Pictures are so clear. The jump from the 5 pixel 5 to this seems like night and day. Either the touch 5 isn't 5 pixels or this one is more than 8 because the pictures don't compare. These are photos you can print and hang on your wall. I'm throwing away my Sony digital camera.
5) Storage - 128 GB is awesome! I transferred all my aps music and pictures and have 96 gigs left! Sweet!
6) Tip - as soon as you unbox, do not rip the protective cover off. Get your screen saver out and ready. Pull the cover off and place your screen saver on in one motion. No dust no lint no nothing.
7) 500 bucks! This sucker cost me 500 bucks with apple care and tax. They better not come out with another one for 3 years...
8) No contracts! I make free calls using pinger. Take that ATandT
9) IOS 8.4 - I hate the music interface. I can't figure this out. I must be an idiot as this seems way too complicated...

Buy a Lumia phone - you'll put this in a drawer, and never use it for photography again. I am glad you like it and all that, but seriously - you ain't seen NOTHING like a Lumia camera :)

$500? ... no, really... $500?! Okkkkaayyy...

Yeah I hear those are great. I'm happy with my Touch though...except for the 500 bucks...

I had a Nokia Lumia. The camera was great, but there's just something about iOS in general that wants to make me want to use the camera more. The other thing I noticed was that while my pictures were nice and vivid on the phone's screen, they were dull once you loaded it on an actual computer. So not a proper representation at all.

Lumia cameras are legendary for their clarity, low noise and accurate colour representation. I'm not sure what you did when taking your photos, but the fact that Apple hired a Lumia camera engineer to work for them, kinda speaks volumes. I don't have the same experience with the images being different, once imported, and I've owned a 630, 635, 735, 640 & I now own the 640 XL - they're THE most true to life images from ANY camera phone I've had, and I've had A LOT (I upgrade/swap/test every 1-2 months). Maybe it's because - like many consumers - you think saturated = better; not so, not one bit - everyday objects tend not to be hyper-saturated eye candy neon, as a rule of thumb. :)

wow, if they can put internal memory 128 GB in such thin device. Why not add an ALS. They already got rid of the uselss loop thing anyway.

I usually play with my phone in the dark and having to readjust brightness would be a pain. Maybe they already put it in the Touch 6? I dont know, haven't heard anything about it yet.

You're right, it IS way too complicated. Try apps like Picky and Ecoute. Ever since Apple started ruining their music app with iOS7 alternative music apps are booming.

Take some photos and post them to instagram, then go into an apple store and look at them on a 5k iMac, MacBooks, iPads iPhone 6+ etc to get a sense of how good or bad they really are.

I have the 5th Gen, is the battery life of the 6th Gen considerably better? My 5th Gen lasts 5-6 Hours of web browsing.

I just returned my 64gb IPT for the 128gb version and I'm EXTREMELY happy! This baby has so much storage and I'll be set until the next one comes out. Yeah, the price was steep, but I think it is soooo worth it!

It's not just you. Apple Music's UI on both iOS and iTunes is horrendous. It's no wonder everyone I know, including myself, immediately went back to Spotify.

Nothing personal, but I do hope they release an IpT with a 4.7" screen. Sooner than later.

That said, it's a bit scary yet familiar to think in 4 years, this blazingly fast device will be sluggish again.

It's good to hear your enthusiasm for Lumia cameras, since I share it, from first 620 through the Volkswagen (original) Bug of smartphones, the 520, to my outgoing 635 - BUT I believe even my beater iPhone 4s (gotta have iMessage and Facetime!) takes better indoor light pix - and that's with sidelight, not direct light, through a patio door, never mind Starbucks-dim indoors pix. True, outdoors the 635 punches way above its cost, but in available light Apple seems to shine. Hence my desire to get my hands on the cheapest possible Touch 6th gen, just for that camera.

Thanks for addressing the upgrade in picture quality. Somehow I think the improvement is due to a better ISP (image signal processing) chip, and not due to the increase in pixels, unless you are really enlarging your pictures or cropping a lot. 5mp is more than enough for uncropped pix 1090p full screen-monitor pictures, which is why Apple stuck with it a long time, and even now is still on 8mp not 13 or even crazy higher numbers; historically Apple opted to keep the pixel size larger, for better indoor lighting performance without a flash, rather than shrinking the pixels to up the count. Since I like to take natural light - no flash - pix, I'm glad Apple took that route. Many of my devices take great outdoors pix, only my iDevices take good indoor pix (without flash). My iPhone 4s takes good indoor pix, my wife's 5c takes better, and our kid's 5s takes the best. If I could afford a 6 I'd go that route, for now I'm grateful the Touch has been upgraded with so much camera goodness...and that the difference is obvious to you in your recent testing.

I've got a question for my fellow iPod touch 6 owners. Whenever I go to the Weather app and tap on the list button that shows all the cities you have added, whenever I tap on a city to just show the weather info on that city the rest of the other cities seem to choppily animate away. This doesn't happen to my iPhone 5S from work which is also on iOS 8.4. According to some reviews I've read with the underclocked A8, its performance should be roughly be comparable to the A7, if not slightly faster. So my question is, do you guys/gals experience the same thing?

Battery life on standby seems abysmal too compared to the previous touch at almost 3 days, whereas my iPt5 can go along without being touched for about 10 days before I need to plug it back in.

Anyway, just wanted to ask before considering exchanging mine at the Apple Store.

Yeah, but smartphones with 2 yr contracts end up costing you nearly $2,000. So in perspective, the iPT is a steal. ;-)

Oh, I've seen the Lumia 640xl camera reviews on YouTube....and am not that impressed. Sure, it's fine like many smartphone cameras out there. But I applaud Apple not rushing to up the megapixel count like its competitors. Remember people, smartphone cameras have a ridiculously small sensor. Upping the megapixel count just for bragging rights isn't the answer. People are wising up. Apple is doing it right. Perfecting all the other areas while slowly increasing the megapixel count. That is why their images rival and blow away the competition in low light conditions as well as other areas.

The next iPhone is getting a camera upgrade. Should be interesting to see what apple does next. I'm loving the images I'm getting so far with my iPT6 camera. Truly amazing.

Great to hear. I'm still waiting to see one at a local store...

Do you use any cases for the iPT that have a tripod mount?

Well, I picked up a gold IPT6 yesterday from Target and spent a day with it. I used it to stream video (it did OK, but not as reliable as my wife's iPad Air 2) to my Apple TV, Twitter, stream music to my PS4 via Spotify, web browse a little (I emphasize a little because this screen is too small to do much of it), played some word games, and read a few emails. It wasn't used intensively, and the screen brightness was at a very low setting. With all that, it needed to be charged 3 times. The battery life on this thing stinks. It's also got a weird home button that needs to be pressed perfectly in the middle to function. I can press it fully on the sides and it won't do anything. Has to be pressed dead center. That might be a defect.

All in all, this thing is going back to Target next week. Not worth 200 dollars imo. I'll continue to hold out for the next iteration of iPad Mini.

No. I just use a simple rubber case left over from my iPT5. I do use a Joby GripTight tripod with magnetic feet tho. For the iPod or iPhone, I think it's the perfect travel tripod.
