i noticed this time, when i 2-finger click a link (i want to open the link in a new tab), the link is highlighted/selected then the menu appears. what's the problem?

Command-click should open the link in a new tab.

yeah it works but i only use the trackpad all the time without the keyboard. is this normal that if you 2-finger click a link, the link will be highlighted?
Yes, it's normal. It's like right-clicking or Control-clicking the link, which brings up the context-sensitive menu.
