Hi guys i am colorist still in training ruining mac pro 2009 with Blackmagic Design: DaVinci Resolve color correcting program that runs on cuda it loves cuda ruining it on windows. I would like to upgrade my mac pro to two GEFORCE 660 GTX super clocked 2GB that i can get for 180 i already have Radeon HD 5770 pc version and gtx 550ti. I would like to have 5770 and 2 gtx inside

    My questions are

1- If i install the cards i will have to go external power supply which i have no problem modifying my mac can you recommend power supply?

2-Any problems that i should be expecting?

3-I also can get 2 GTX 580 Super clocked SLI combination is there big difference between 580 and 660

4- How many gtx can one fit in mac pro with external power supply

5- I alos hear that 660 can be easily flashed any though on this.

Thanks guys much appreciated for your help

    1. You can use 2 GTX 660 2GB SC cards inside your Mac Pro without getting an external power supply. I used to run two in my 3,1.

    2. Problems? No, shouldn't be. Just make sure you have the extension cables for GPU power.

    3. The most significant difference between the 580 and the 660 is the power consumption. I don't think that even ONE GTX 580 will run inside your Mac Pro without rerouting power from your Optical Drives or using an external power supply. I would go with the 660s.

    4. From what I can tell, two cards fit EASILY, but I believe there are reports of being able to squeeze 3 cards in with some modification. Someone correct me if I am wrong, here. Of course, I'm referring to dual slot cards, which most modern GPUs are. Obviously, if you were using single slot cards, you could fit up to 4.

    5. This is not the case. The GTX 660 cannot be flashed easily, probably not at all without significant investment.

    Hope this helps.

You will not be able to run those cards off of internal power. "Hacking" your case might (?) give you the clearance to fit 3 cards in there, but you would absolutely need another PSU to power those cards. A single GTX 680 barely runs off of the available internal power, let alone two AND a Radeon 5770. If you could fit them all in your case, you would still need an alternative method of powering them.
