Yes this is stated all over again and I just told Justin not to worry about the edge but these times really suck....Oh well still getting...but this other bit of info as far as glitches and locking up is not a good sign....Owning more of my fair share of Pocket Pc/Palms this has always plauge them...This causes lost of information and just over all pain....Updates are great but will this device have the same issues...Two more days to tell...I really hope not...
Check how long it takes to open Yahoo

"But otherwise, you have to use AT&T’s ancient EDGE cellular network, which is excruciatingly slow. The New York Times’s home page takes 55 seconds to appear; Amazon.com, 100 seconds; Yahoo. two minutes. You almost ache for a dial-up modem".

"These drawbacks may be deal-killers for some people. On the other hand, both the iPhone and its network will improve. Apple points out that unlike other cellphones, this one can and will be enhanced with free software updates. That’s good, because I encountered a couple of tiny bugs and one freeze. (There’s also a tantalizing empty space for a row of new icons on the Home screen.) A future iPhone model will be able to exploit AT&T’s newer, much faster data network, which is now available in 160 cities."

Wait... there is no way this version of the iphone can magically through software updates to move from EDGE to 3G or 4G right? Those are hardware issues.

And some people who actually use edge all the time will question those times as being extreme and indicating the user might be in the middle of a tornado in Wyoming with the nearest 3 cell towers down due to storms.

Those reports are not what I have seen when talking about edge with people who use it every day. I know someone who is on the road about 80% of the time, and he has device that does both edge and 3G and he tells me the difference is not that great. In ideal situations the 3G throughput is about twice that of EDGE.

I use edge on my blackberry, and its not that slow. BUT the iPhone loads an entire page. Not just a "mobile" version on the page. So my guess it will take quite a bit longer to load.
