    I tried to search a bit and didnt see info on this.

    What's the deal with multiplayer games played on separate phones?

    Is it possible to make apps where you can play 2 or more players either remotely, or nearby on the same network? I was just playing DotBox with my girlfriend and we were curious if we both had the app on our phones, if we could play together but using our own phones separately. We definitely can't, but I'm just wondering if this is something that's possible? Do any games do it?

    It would be great to get a proper list! But some do it, like;
    Texas HoldEm (Wifi)
    3-D Vector Pong (Wifi)
    or 4InARow (finds another player to play with you)

    BattleAtSea (a "Battleship" clone) supports playing against each other on two separate phones as long as you are connected via WiFi.

    One person starts BattleAtSea, selects "Multiplayer" then "Host"; the other does the same but selects "Join". Works pretty well, and I wish more games would support this concept! (Also wish it would work over EDGE/3G so you could play anywhere!)

    And if you have extra authorizations on your iTunes account (you can have up to 5), you don't need to pay for the game multiple times -- just login with your iTunes account on your wife/friend's computer, authorize it, and then download it again (the App Store will know you've already paid for it and thus you won't get charged again). Apple's FairPlay DRM allows apps to be shared this way, just like songs, on the systems you've authorized for your iTunes account. (More details are available here.)
