I'm comparing the $1299 MB Air vs the $1499 2-port MB Pro (for the same storage). I have seen many reviews saying the lower end (2-port) MB Pro is not worth it compared to the MB Air. Any reason to buy the MB Pro?
$200 is nothing over the life of a machine. I own the previous version MBP (2017). There is no way I’d it trade for an Air. It’s much faster with better cooling. Super light. I am not sure why the Air even exists.
I’ve owned 2016 4 port 13” MBP, 2017 15”, Now I have had the 2020 MBA for over a month. This is my favorite of the 3. 2nd was the 2016. There was a lot of talk about heat in the beginning, but I received mine on the .5 update and it runs In the 40’s office work and low 30’s idle. I have not ran any extensive stuff except bench marking. The battery life is amazing for casual use office work.
it depends on your use, both are great machines. It’s more about Touch Bar or Not, wedge design or square, If your doing extensive stuff for long periods then go Pro. But it’s more personal likes between these 2 machines. It’s a choice that someone needs to make after trying both. I have basically, I had a 2016.
the i5 & i7 is no slouch, don’t be told otherwise. I’ve scored 1300 single core and 3600 multi core GB5. 1200 Cinebench R20.
and for about $10 and 10 minutes you place a thermal pad on the heat sink, none destructive, you are over 4,000 multi core.
I don’t think that’s true. The MBA has 10th generation processors, MBP 8th generation. The geekbench scores I remember I have seen shows the MBA to be slightly faster for single core, and slightly slower for multi core.

Not on anything that runs for longer than it takes for the Air to heat up. If I’m you’re running any sustained tasks like video exporting, compiling...the Air will fall behind by as much as 50%
