just bough an external monitor and was wondering if there is any display calibration software other than that in the system. i just cannot get the colors right with it. the display in question is samsung 2233bw 22".

other question is regarding temperatures when macbook pro is closed. is it safe to keep it like that, since i want to attach an external keyboard to it.

For the first option, you can buy hardware calibration software that is much more accurate than using the calibration tool in OS X. As for the second, the MacBook Pro will run a bit hotter but I've used it in clamshell (what it is called) for extended periods of time without any harm. I just use the MacBook Pro's LCD as a second monitor now since I appreciate the extra screen space.
