I constantly see 2 red lights left to the microphone inside the notch of the iPhone X flickering once every 2-3 seconds. What is this and why is it doing that?

One of the things that seems a bit off about FaceID to me - it should only be engaged when you're going to use it. I'm not sure about the lasting impact of a focused beam of IR hitting your aqueous humour/ vitreous humour and cornea, retina etc on a regular basis either...

You can see the LEDs if you take a picture of your iPhone X.

Found this:
Siri will temporarily turn off FaceID: all your have to do is say “Hey Siri, whose phone is this?” and Face ID will switch off automatically—this also works for Touch ID on older iPhones. When you want that feature back on, just say “Hey Siri, goodbye” to switch it back on.
You can also turn off FaceID by pressing the side buttons to get the shutdown screen, then canceling that shutdown. FaceID will be off then.

It just the Face ID sensors. Most people can only see them in low-light rooms (when its dark), with the display brightness is minimal. Pretty sure you only should be seeing it when on lock screen when the iPhone X is waiting to see the presence of a face to unlock it.
