anyone think this could ever be a possibility? Why or why not? I think this would be a perfect addition to the iphone, with how many people travel using the iphone this would be a perfect addition.

No.

1. Same reason there will never be an SD card slot or a removable battery. It's extraneous.

2. A very very small percentage of people are traveling with the iPhone.

3. Apple didn't spend all that time making nano-SIMs as tiny as possible so that they can use two of them.

A few years ago I might have agreed, but thanks to Apple we are moving towards SIM-less phones. When that happens, perhaps then we will be able to associate multiple virtual SIMs to a phone.

Would those have simultaneous use or would you need to manually convert from one to another?
What i'm thinking about is to have 2 numbers work simultaneously in 1 phone.
