I'd avoid splitting forums because a 13" MB could have the same issue as a 17" MBP, and some users wouldn't know.

Even if they searched, and were too specific, they wouldn't find it since the problem was product-line wide instead of just their 13".

Other than sticky threads that are the top 5 most common questions, I don't see a nice way to keep duplicate threads from happening.

Once in a while add a sticky for a major issue. If all MBPs with an even number in the serial number were to start printing money out of their cdrom drive, complaints will come in that it's not in their currency. So a new sticky thread might be in order for a time until it's resolved.

But the time old "how do I refresh my battery" "should I really repair permissions?" "Please validate me and tell me I'm not pirating when I copy somebody else's OS X disks" could go up at all times.

Just some thoughts from a veteran of tech support on the PC side of the galaxy.
