I think this may conflict, slightly, with the stereotypes some French people may have entertained about American military men.
Forgive me for saying this, but I believe the French people have been more than a little charmed by the honesty, humility, and sincerity of the the three young Americans.

Apparently the shooter posted video of himself shooting the reporter and cameraman. Link here. Obviously, disturbing.
It brings an utterly shocking new meaning to term "first person shooter".
It is pretty obvious from the video that this was no random crime, with the victims caught in the crossfire. I don't really know what to say, other than this is somebody taking modern society's obsession with narcissism; social media, YouTube, "selfies" - along with violence and firearms - to an absolutely ghastly conclusion.
