OP - I would suggest you don't move your entire home folder off the SSD as this contains things like application support files and prefs which will slow things down a bit if apps have to access them from the slower drive. Just move your photos, movies, music and maybe email over.

Yeh I dont want to move my whole home folder, I just wanted to move the media (movies/music/pix), is there a good way to do it so everything is retained in the finder under places etc?

I think its safe to assume that its working fine if it lasted you that long, usually the whole issue is that they die much much quicker, way before 1 year mark.
I just dont know if WD would screw up like that to be honest, I think this 'issue' is simply overblown.

Well I now recall that I moved it from a HOT 750GB drive to the cooler Green drive mid-year. So it's not been terribly long. I'd forgotten about the first one, but man.. it was getting almost too hot to touch.

Anyways my content is backed up. If it dies.. so be it.

I actually decided to talk to WD guys and theyve confirmed its best not to be used in raid 🙁

No wonder that they say that. They wanna sell the RE drives. 😉

Seriously, there are tons of people out there who run Green drives only in their file servers in a RAID.

Just make sure that you've got a decent backup system for your arrays, if the drives fail, who cares, you've got 3 years of warranty.

I rather live with a drive that fails earlier than others (if they really fail that fast, which I doubt), than sitting besides a computer with noisy drives in it.

If you're still not sure about the Green drives, simply buy another brand, like Samsung.

Im thinking maybe to wait for Samsung EcoGreen F4s they are supposed to be released early September.
