2 year old macbook pro SLOW!!

hello, i bought my MBP two years ago (late 08 version) and its been really slow. to the point where i just got so frustrated i bought an imac. but now i'm going to be traveling for a couple of weeks and i need my MBP with me. is there a way to stop this slowness ? it like freezes sometimes when i open a file and safari is just unbearable ! should i reinstall os ?

Backup your important files and do a fresh, clean install.

Try OnyX. A reinstallation of OS X wouldn't hurt either.

Yes...if it's constantly beachballing however it might be an HD issue.

I second onyx. It could be your be too. Mine is still fast as it was when I bought it.

How much disk space do you have left on your hard drive?

That's what mine is doing currently (beachballing a LOT for no reason). The HD that's in it though is only a year old. (WD Scorpio Blue 500GB).

I had a new drive in my Macbook Pro that starting with being slow and then one day it finally died. Try reinstalling and using your Macbook Pro fresh with part of the basic installation to rule out a software issue.

Specs? What are you doing to make it slow down?
I have a late '08 that was being really slow. I upgraded it to 4GB RAM and it's fine.
