A lot of people seem to be worried about running out that battery. When I bought my iPod I told myself that if I could get two years of use without changing the battery, then I was doing good. I have over a year, and it holds a charge for me every time I have wanted to use it, I have yet to have the battery die while on the go.

Same goes with the PowerBook/iBook/MacBook Pro... $129 isn't too expensive for a replacement, and I suppose if one gets 5 years and only had to replace the battery once, they will be getting a new machine soon anyhow after five years and are doing good.

Of course, it appears different people have different stories... Batteries are funny little things, aren't they?

Yeah, it's only a battery, $130 isn't enough to sweat buckets over, well that's coming from me when my 2 years with my 12" PB and my stats are

Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 3714
Remaining Capacity (mAh): 3672
Cycle Count: 38

Always have mine plugged in, but I run the battery down about once a month

23 Month Old Powerbook
323 Battery Loadcycles
4400 mAh Original Battery Capacity
3975 mAh Current Battery Capacity
90% of Original!!

I'd check my second battery but it's 150 miles away from me at the moment.

For my 15" PB 1.67GHz Coconut Battery says:

Current Battery Capacity: 4019 mAh
Original Battery Capacity: 4400mAh
Current Battery Charge: 3968 mAh (stops charging at 98%)

13 Months old, 194 load cycles

I seem to be doing pretty well here:

1.33 GHz 15 in PB that is just over 1.5 years old. I try to keep it powered whenever possible, but I guess I'm going through almost 1 cycle/day! Still, the battery is holding up very well (if I dim the screen a bit and turn off airport, I can get about 3.5 hours out of the battery using Word.

Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 3932
Remaining Capacity (mAh): 3891
Amperage (mA): 0
Voltage (mV): 12471
Cycle Count: 405

If I had a portable (well I have a thinkpad, but the battery is dead in it, and I won't spend the money to replace it since I wouldn't want to carry this machine around.. all the cosmetic damage and it happens to be my Windows XP machine, so I use it as my Windows XP desktop) I would plug it in when it was on my desk or I was somewhere where I could plug it in, however, I wouldn't stress myself out to find an outlet. The nice thing about the portable machine is using it on the battery when there is no access to a power outlet or it isn't easy to get to one. I think too many people stress about such things and they don't really get the full enjoyment from their computer because they are always worried about it being plugged in. Take out and have fun :)

Well, 535 cycles and it finally went down some more, now its at 2069 for full charge capacity. I'm thinking when it gets down to 1500 or so I will bother to get a new battery. Should be another year or so my guess.

801 cycles and still holding strong at 2069...I don't see why people complain about these batteries.

I've had my current powerbook for almost two years now.. this is a 1.5Ghz model w/ 1.5 gigs of ram.. here's my battery info..

Battery 1
Battery: battery installed, above warning level
Charger: charger connected, not charging

Capacity: 4.316Ah of 4.400Ah (98.1%)
Cycles: 87

Charge: 4.273Ah of 4.316Ah (99.0%)
Current: 0.000A
Voltage: 12.499V

A couple of powerbooks ago, i've realized two important things:

1.) Cycles is how many times the battery has been drained down and charged up (not necessarily in one sitting)
2.) Capacity only falls when you let the battery run out.

The number of cycles is not what determines what your capacity is directly, it's if you let your battery drain all the way. Once it drains, that's when your overall capacity will drop.

Also if you really want to keep your battery in tip-top shape, when you are not on the road and have power, take the battery out since it is slowly losing drain (not capacity just losing a few % every couple of hours), and it won't charge up right away (until it drops to say les than 92%).. All these little draining add up to be whole cycles after a couple weeks or so.

Finally checked my battery again. I thought it was getting bad but...

Well, i'll post it so you can see yourself.

Battery Information:
Battery Installed: Yes
First low level warning: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 415
Remaining Capacity (mAh): 374
Amperage (mA): 516
Voltage (mV): 12527
Cycle Count: 343

I get about 10mins if i'm lucky. I've been bit by the Rev B battery issues :(

wow, ive only used 119 cycles on my 14 month old ibook, i expected a lot more.

So,my question is, i have had the PB now for a little over 6 months. I keep it plugged in at the desk most of the time, should i leave the battery off of it most of the time? will it hold its charge? or should ikk leave the battery in while it is always plugged in.
Andreas
9 Cycles!!! Since Monday I have 9 cycles wow my battery is surely going to need to be replaced at some point in my life that is crazy that I have gone through 9 already since Monday.

3 years of use and WOW thats a lot of cycles! (rev a 12" pb)

1001 cycles! w00t! And I still have 1851mAH for a full charge capacity.

Coming up on 2 years of owning my PB and here are the stats:

Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 2520
Remaining Capacity (mAh): 2507
Amperage (mA): 0
Voltage (mV): 12435
Cycle Count: 161
A year later.....

Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 2184
Remaining Capacity (mAh): 2183
Amperage (mA): 0
Voltage (mV): 12477
Cycle Count: 260

I need a MacBook Pro

Boy was I wrong, it took 2 years not 1 to get down to 1500.

This is where it's at now:

Battery Installed: Yes
First low level warning: Yes
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 1499
Remaining Capacity (mAh): 196
Amperage (mA): -1529
Voltage (mV): 11040
Cycle Count: 1815

I'll probably wait till it gets 2000 cycles, then buy a battery on eBay.

dang that's some crazy stats. yeah i'd buy a new battery if i were you

I still get an hour on the current battery, and most of the time that is sufficient. The last couple days I've been bringing my charger with me though due to more time spent in the library (thank you online courses).

Explain this...more cycle counts, and my battery holds more mAH when full then it did a year ago...

Battery Installed: Yes
First low level warning: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 1821
Remaining Capacity (mAh): 1801
Amperage (mA): -1446
Voltage (mV): 11563

No new battery for me yet, this one is still kicking.

I got mine last October. :D

I think 96% after ~14 months is pretty good. I have been as low as 90%, but a couple calibration cycles and treating the battery nice have brought it back up.

My 13 months old 2.2GHz MBP is now 4774/5500 mAh (86%) after 260 cycles, guess its normal

PowerBook 1.33Ghz,1.25GB RAM, 250GB HDD

Cycles: 412
Charge remainging: 4088

I have 2 batteries and get about 4-5 hours on each with good brightness, wifi and other apps running.

I love it.

MBP: age 4 months
cycles: 17
Capacity: 5610

5yr Old iBook G4

I had over 9500 cycles on my iBook G4 before I finally replaced the battery. I bought the computer in March of 2004, and I replaced the battery in August 2008. I got a whopping 21 minutes of life on a full charge. It was heaven when I plugged in the new one and got 5:21 on it!!!!!!!
