I remember a while back that people we commenting on the fact that the 20" Alu iMac screens were not indeed made for a "millions of colors" display as Apple says.

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this now.

The reason I ask is because I want to buy a new iMac, replacing the one I have now. I was thinking of springing for the 24", but if the 20" screens are now up to snuff I might just go with that, so I don't have to spend as much money up upgrade. The main reason is for Processor power and faster GPU along with the screen if relevant.

Could anyone clue me in on this? Search results did not lead to much conclusiveness about the status of the 20" screens, only comments about the 24" that I noticed.

    EDIT:

I love watching things in HD, and looking at photos like this, but the gradients are not smooth - display problem?

You can't see any difference at all. The only reason people caught on the this is because someone came across detailed specs and noticed the difference.

I have a 20" Alu and sell :apple: computers for a living (so I've played with all the models) and there isn't any difference in everyday use.

The 24" display has more colours, but the human eye can't distinguish most of them. The eye distinguishes fewer colours than the 20" offers. End result - they all look the same.
