so I told my friend how my 20" iMac intel only burns single layer DVDs @ 1x or 2x. something tells me and him this is too slow. any ideas on what may be slowing me down, or is this just how it is?

I'm using memorex 16x 4,7gb DVD-R

for apps I'm using toast, disc utility, and finder

If possible, try another brand. Also, is the computer doing anything else intensive at the same time? 🙂

I've always had problems with Memorex dvds so I use TDK and Verbatum, just started trying Fuji for both dvd/cd. Since the switch I haven't had any problems as this was with my G5 iMac. TDK and the Verbatum dvds that I have used burn at the 8x and I've also burned DL (Fuji brand) that burned at the max speed without any problems.
If it helps the Memorex gave my external LaCie dvd burner troubles as well dropping down to 2x and not the full 16x. Hope what mad said helps 😉
