I did not purchase Apple Care with my new Mac Book Air. Am I still able to purchase Apple Care with the 20% off discount they are currently offering?

I keep going back and forth if I should or not. I was very careful with my previous Mac Book Pro, not damage and it was fine. Suddenly after only having it for 5 years, the whole thing just died. Of course it was out of warranty. Apple Care is only good for 3 years though so it wouldn’t have mattered…

Gomerboy,
Please post a link to the 20% AppleCare discount you are referring to. The only thing I could find on Google refers to a "Student Discount". If you are referring to a student discount, it is important to mention any limitations to a discount offer if it does not apply to all Apple buyers. Thanks

This is right on Apple’s homepage:

So as @davekro mentioned this is the student discount pricing, if you have a look at the small print though it also says the device needs to have been purchased within the promotional period:

This promotional Apple Education Pricing on AppleCare+ is available for eligible products purchased during the promotional period only and cannot be combined with non-promotional Apple Education Pricing. AppleCare+ attached to eligible products outside of the promotional period is not eligible for this promotional rate.

If you are a student, it maybe worth calling Apple to see if they could do anything.

I think that the promo period will end around the end of August/early Sept. as students return to school. From my guess, I believe the Applecare student discount applies until then and 60 days after you bought the machine. That's just an educated guess.

Let me know what you find out after talking to Apple. I want to do the same thing.
I called and talked to Apple. They said if you are a student you can get Apple Care for 3 years at $179 instead of $199. That’s not 20% though.

Yeah that sounds like the standard student discount. So it follows the small print, you need to by a Mac as part of the promotion and you can get Apple Care at that rate in that period if you decide to before the promotion ends.

All as long as you are a student.

The regular price for apple care is $229 for the MacBook Air M2 $183 (20% off) with the EDU discount. And $199 regular for the M1 Air $159 (20% off) with EDU in the US for the promotion.

There was a special 20% discount off of AppleCare along with the $150 gift card for educational purchases, but I think that you had to purchase the AppleCare at the time of check out. You could call Apple and explain this and see if it is still available after the fact, but they may not be able to do anything now.
