    bolded = short version ;)

well, my MBP broke again ((1 week after it being repaired) The thing is only 6 weeks old!) After a call to apple saying I wasnt happy with my macbook pro, and I would like to switch it out for the $1800 iMac, the girl basically laughed at me..

I then sent an email to sjobs@apple.com explaining my whole ordeal, and said I would like to switch it out for a 2.8 GHz iMac, so apple would technically be getting $200 free.

I got a call a day or two later from Ken Bell (my new favorite apple employee)saying this could be done, but since the iMac costs less than the MBP i had $200 to spend on an upgrade..

I was thinking of one of the following:
    • upgrade to 4GB (get the most out of my money)
    • upgrade the HD (loose a little bit on my end)
    • get applecare (nice, but I always can get it later)

what should I get? I dont want to upgrade the graphics becuase all the crap I have been hearing about Nvidia lately, and i dont game anyways

I told Ken to upgrade the RAM, so that is probably what I am getting. If you can give me a real reason to get something else, please tell me now.

What about the 8800 GS option? The RAM or harddrive can always be upgraded later..the video card, on the other hand...

Don't spend it on Apple RAM or hard drive, you can get those much cheaper third party

Upgrade the RAM and HDD yourself.

If you read the OP, he stated that the NVIDIA card is NOT wanted.

Get something that you can't get except from Apple. Apple severely overprices its RAM and HD upgrades. Ugh.

My thousand monkeys typed that on their thousand keyboards. SO close!

That said, if you're sure you don't want to upgrade the vidcard, then I'd say applecare, if you're SURE you would be buying it anyways. RAM can always be bought elsewhere for much cheeper.

the thing is im not sure..

i can have up to a $200 dollar upgrade, so I think RAM would be the best choice, since I only have like 45GB's on my HD.

I know, I know, i normally wouldnt get apple RAM but this is technically free.. Well not really since i paid for the MBP.. but anyways..

one reason i give for a hd upgrade instead of ram. it is a pain in the a$$ to install a new hd in the imac. ram is easy and you can buy it cheap. the hd you have to take apart the machine and move the lcd panel. let apple do it for you. hd space is always a good thing.

Personally I would get the graphics card upgrade. But you said that you don't want that. So I would say get the larger HDD, because those aren't user replaceable, and if your like me and get the smaller drive, you'll be kicking yourself for it when you only have 100GB left after 9 months.
