2005 G4 17" 1.67 Screen is failing

    I bought my PowerBook in May 2005 and have used it daily for at least eight hours each day. About a month ago, a one-pixel-wide 'stripe' appeared, running from the top of the screen to the bottom. Two weeks ago, another appeared, and then yesterday, yet one more. The first two are 'purple' and the most recent one is 'yellow'.
    As for getting it replaced, do any of you have recommendations?
    It's gonna be hellish not having this machine for the few days it'll take to get it repaired. I do not have the AppleCare warranty. I stopped at the Genius Bar in Seattle and one of the guys there said they have a program that, for $350.00, I can get the screen replaced as well as have anything else taken care of at the same time. He said I should just 'make a list', bring it in and go from there. Any idea what he's talking about?

    i wonder if it's a coincidence that applecare for macbook pros is $350.

    This is a known problem. The same exact thing happened to mine of the same vintage, and Applecare replaced the screen. That $350 is a repair option Apple offers. But I dimly recall that Apple might even have a screen replacement program for this problem since it was so widespread.
