I have a 2006 MacBook Pro that normally functions perfectly. However I recently purchased a 20" Acer monitor, and have it connected via DVI. The computer will turn on and run fine for about five minutes, and then will instantly shutdown with no sequence or warning. Any ideas?

What happens when you attempt to connect your MacBook Pro to a different external display?

Have you tried running the Apple Hardware Test at all to see if there's any detected issues with the graphics processing unit?

For information on how to run the Apple Hardware Test for your specific model, please see the following Apple Support document: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
