You should never apply thermal grease with anything except a straight edge. Using a glove would certainly cause bubbles in the paste which would reduce the amount of contact between the chip and the heat sink.

Agreed, when I've applied AS5, I used a razor to ensure that I applied a "razor" thin coating of the stuff. Good words about not lifting it again, or you'll need to reapply to make sure you didn't introduce air bubbles.

I've got a BlackBook laying in pieces here that I'm fixing, and I must say that the paste isn't all that terrible. It's running Tiger, so I assume it's rather old.

I think one of the multiple reasons the Intel machines run cooler, is the integration of the chipset. If anybody here has taken apart a PowerPC notebook, they find that there are THREE chips attached to the heat sink.

Two questions:

Does anybody have images of Apple's handiwork in the new MacBook Pros and MacBook unibodies?

Where can I order the screws for this MacBook? Seems everybody that brings their notebooks to me had to prove they were experienced nerds first and end up either losing half of their screws or putting them back in the wrong holes or in holes that don't need screws at all!
