Well, the college football season is rapidly approaching!

The USA Today/Coaches Poll Preseason Top 25 just came out yesterday,
and yes... my Dawgs are firmly perched on top.

I thought we would have a thread to track the season!

But, since it is the preseason still, there are several topics to kick around and express your opinion about:

• Who are your top 5 teams going into this season?
• Heisman hopefuls? Who is your pick?
• Is the SEC truly the best conference? Big 10? Big 12? Pac 10? Big East? ACC?
• Paterno v. Bowden and is this the last year for either of them?
• What do you think about the BCS?
• Should Ohio State be allowed to play for championship again???
• Fill in the blank _______________________ with your own!

I know there are a lot of colleges represented on the board, so let's keep it civil but passionate.

Geez, here's a surprise the Georgia Dawg starting a thread about College Football when his team is "PRESEASON" No. 1.
Ok, we are not going to win the national championship this year, but next year my Miami Hurricanes will run the tables. The number 3 ranked recruiting class will mature.
As for this year, victories over Florida and A&M will be the highlights. We will be in a bowl.
New stadium, new beginning.
•The BCS is Windows Vista.
•They got the top 5 right, for now.
•SEC is still the toughest conference, again for now. The ACC is still lacking in week-in, week-out tough games.

I like what Shannon is doing with your team. He is recruiting out of his mind and there is a new attitude building. This year will be a struggle again, but starting next year, you guys should be contending for the ACC again and the BCS after that.

Kansas has been awful for so long, they need some consistent winning seasons to earn respect

he will make the blackshirts regain their respect. i believe they have a lot of talent, but wasnt utilized well with callahan.

Colorado may be pretty good
It will be interesting to watch Cody play for his Dad as the starting QB

it was interesting last year. actually showed glimpses of being a good team. much better than that fluke 2-10 season 2 years ago before cody came

Kansas has been awful for so long, they need some consistent winning seasons to earn respect

rankings are about this year, not historical. when not much has changed, i believe kansas deserves all the credit and maybe more than they got

in my mind, it was a mistake to not have them be in the champ game when they lost one game to a big rival by 6 points who were also having an amazing year. how in the world lsu got in over BOTH mizzou and esp kansas was shocking to me. but thats my opinions and my extreme bias towards the big 12

Well we both agree LSU didn't belong, but in MY opinion it should have been the Dawgs and USC and it was a travesty that they didn't play in the Rose anyway.

haha the root is the bcs. it needs to go! well to some extent

seriously, after the course of 12-13 games, it is evident which teams are contenders and which are not. i propose taking the top 4 teams using the bcs and having a three game playoff for the nat championship

to do this, make all teams play 11 games so only one team has to play 14 games

I'm confident my Seminoles will take the ACC in the next two years. Jimbo Fisher + the greatest coach in Division I history + typically excellent recruiting class = another bad night in Miami for you. But please when we do come to your new house, at least put something on the board. 48-0 is hard to watch no matter who you're pulling for. Then again, so is "Wide Right".

Other than that, Illinois will be back in a big way this year - pulling some big upsets I think. Also hoping for better luck this year for the Oregon Ducks, my annual Pac 10 pick.

Not a lot of confidence in Illinois
The big 10 is so weak, and USC exposed the Illini in the Rose

Oregon had a raw deal last year... it was their year
They should have been the BCS darling and had a Heisman winner

Instead, we get a 2 loss LSU team and a 4 loss Tim Tebow who got embarrassed by Michigan in the bowl

well.. my dawgs.. the fresno state bulldogs should be doing better than last year.. looks like my 50 yard line season tix.. red seats for the people who have been to bulldog stadium will be giving me my run for my money..

SEC by far. we have to face top quality teams every week, while half of the big 10 is filled with lackluster and mediocre teams. 500 college games a week hurt the northern teams as the good players went south for exposure. and honestly, i'm sick of the beef espn gives the sec trying to pump up some other conference as greater as ours (see 2006 season when they wanted michigan in, only time i rooted for the gators due to sec pride)
• Paterno v. Bowden and is this the last year for either of them? they both stick around for a few more years, and i prefer bowden.
• What do you think about the BCS? worst. idea. ever. bcs ftl.

I pull for Ohio State as a family tradition, but it's been too embarrassing to broadcast that recently.

The Blue Devils might actually win two games this year... the addition of David Cutcliffe was a pleasant surprise. Might even begin a turnaround? Here's hoping.

For truth, the Buckeyes have laid the proverbial egg 2 years in a row, and their loss to the Gators was truly an epic fail.
Of course their record against the SEC is something like 0-12.

It is quite possible than will be right back there to get spanked by another SEC team (insert my Dawgs here) this year for yet another title game loss.

i'm an lsu fan stuck in gator country (gross), and with a bunch of our seniors gone from last year (and our old qb getting into dopey trouble), i think we take a step back and rebuild. that's all for now...

USC, UGA, Oklahoma, and the other two don't matter.

Joe McKnight or Staffon Johnson (Heisman University and Tailback University representing)

Is the SEC truly the best conference? Big 10? Big 12? Pac 10? Big East? ACC?

SEC has the most depth, but the top team is in the Pac 10.

What do you think about the BCS?

It mostly sucks. The Trojans (me included) all wanted a playoff, and even if we were in the championship game, we still would have wanted a playoff to kill any other team who thought they could stand up to us. Stanford was an aberration and ruined our season.

Should Ohio State be allowed to play for championship again???

Never. Unless they beat us in our home opener, which I doubt.

That was the worst day ever. Can you say trying to play through a broken finger and 5 interceptions? Terrible coaching call to keep Booty in, but besides that, Pete Carroll is God.

We all wanted to play you guys as well. LSU/Ohio State was the worst match up ever, and you guys having to play that impostor Hawaii was a flat out travesty. We would have killed LSU, and we would have killed Ohio State. The only logical match up would have been the two best teams in the country, USC and UGA.

I won't even mention Illinois, what a joke. Michigan the year before that? Can anyone play at our level when we don't implode? Probably not, but you guys have the best chance IMO.
