SEC has the most depth, but the top team is in the Pac 10.

i wouldn't be so sure about that. i think usc would falter on a rough sec schedule...

It mostly sucks. The Trojans (me included) all wanted a playoff, and even if we were in the championship game, we still would have wanted a playoff to kill any other team who thought they could stand up to us. Stanford was an aberration and ruined our season.

i say we need a 4 or 8 team playoff in here asap, but don't expect anything since the ncaa is full of hypocrites (they say a playoff will cut into finals or something while all the other divisions have playoffs during finals, and they made everyone play 12 games). i just want lsu vs. usc one time though...

I think USC should have played UGA for the championship LAST year. Hopefully we both navigate our schedules successfully and meet this year. Just do your part and don't make us play those girls from Ohio State or the BCS choke specialists the Sooners.

no. uga didn't even win their division, much less their conference. should have played harder against the vols. usc has a slightly better case, but elite teams don't lose to stanford. and i kinda hope it's sec vs. usc to see that the sec is superior instead of ohio st. losing again or watching choklahoma and spongebob bowlflop in yet another bcs game.

We all wanted to play you guys as well. LSU/Ohio State was the worst match up ever, and you guys having to play that impostor Hawaii was a flat out travesty. We would have killed LSU, and we would have killed Ohio State. The only logical match up would have been the two best teams in the country, USC and UGA.

I won't even mention Illinois, what a joke. Michigan the year before that? Can anyone play at our level when we don't implode? Probably not, but you guys have the best chance IMO.

lsu/ohio st. was stupid, i just knew we were going to cream them. i wanted lsu/usc (not uga, see above), and i think we would have beat up usc that day. and i agree, illinois and michigan are complete jokes. i still can't believe people wanted a rematch game two years ago with ohio st./michigan (that would have been boring).

no. uga didn't even win their division, much less their conference.

I understand the conference argument, but historically that hasn't held true.

A 2 loss LSU team and 2 loss UGA team
One was HOT at the end
The other was not

LSU was on the ropes in 3 other games as well, and what was up with that pass against Auburn?

If (I know, I know) Tennessee loses to South Carolina or Kentucky (and should have both games, then you would seen us in the SEC Championship game.

I know you are glad you got the Vols instead, and barely beat them.
Our lackluster performance against South Carolina and Tennessee cost us.

It will be interesting in Baton Rouge this year... to say the least.

JOE MCKNIGHT at the backfield. The President's (reggie bush) successor has arrived, with 20 pounds more muscle than last year.
Sure that isn't the cash in his pockets?

Yes.

While on the surface this sounds like a ridiculous quote, you might want to think about it. Was there any doubt that after the Stanford/USC game, that USC was not actually the better team? We got beaten fairly, but no one, not even Stanford, actually thought they were the better team, overall. For the game, yes.

Besides, Vince's knee was down.

i wouldn't be so sure about that. i think usc would falter on a rough sec schedule...

And by falter, lose 1, maybe 2 games.

i just want lsu vs. usc one time though...

You wouldn't have wanted that.

usc has a slightly better case, but elite teams don't lose to stanford.

So USC isn't an elite team?

and i kinda hope it's sec vs. usc to see that the sec is superior

As I said before, the SEC is superior to the PAC 10. Unfortunately for you, the top team in the land is in the PAC 10, not the SEC. Almost every commentator on the sports networks were saying that USC would have beaten LSU in a national championship game. USC and UGA, at the end of the season, were the two best teams in college football. That was universally accepted.

and i agree, illinois and michigan are complete jokes.

The same Michigan team that beat Florida in last year's BCS game? Oh, that one...

So USC isn't an elite team?

i'm not saying they aren't elite, but usc shouldn't lose to stanford if they truly are the best team in the land according to how division 1-a football is set up right now.

yes, but it's not about the hottest teams in college football, it's all according to the dumb bcs. and i think some of the commentators are slurping usc kool-aid, it would have been a close game though. some of them were quick to declare usc the best team ever before losing the texas rose bowl game.

I know I know, let's forget about this. Please?

Michigan lost to App State, and they beat the mighty Florida in a BCS game. Flukes happen.

and i think some of the commentators are slurping usc kool-aid, it would have been a close game though.

Probably to both of your points. But the Kool-Aid does taste delicious when you've been to 6 straight BCS bowl games...

Geez, here's a surprise the Georgia Dawg starting a thread about College Football when his team is "PRESEASON" No. 1.
Ok, we are not going to win the national championship this year, but next year my Miami Hurricanes will run the tables. The number 3 ranked recruiting class will mature.
As for this year, victories over Florida and A&M will be the highlights. We will be in a bowl.
New stadium, new beginning.
•The BCS is Windows Vista.
•They got the top 5 right, for now.
•SEC is still the toughest conference, again for now. The ACC is still lacking in week-in, week-out tough games.

Amen brother! Randy is bringing us back!

Sure that isn't the cash in his pockets

Just what I was thinking!!

The same Michigan team that beat Florida in last year's BCS game? Oh, that one...

I saw that coming though. In college football motivation means a lot more than in the pro game. Michigan's player wanted to send their coach out a winner while Florida, well, they were kind of disappointed with where they ended up. Not to take anything away from Michigan, they played a great game. ( On the other hand, if Urban Meyer doesn't learn how to adjust his game plan better you won't have to worry about Tebow winning another Heisman. He'll be in a body cast before the seasons over!!!! )

And while we at Championship U, ( Also known as the University of Florida), hate losing to the mangy flea ridden pups, it was kind of nice to see that once half way decent program lift itself from the miasma of suckiness that it has been mired in for the last couple of decades. We all had faith that one day Rich would figure out how to win a big game. Maybe now the "Worlds Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party" will become interesting again! :D

Ohio State play for another national title? Puh-leeeaaase! Can we have someone new? The SEC is tired of kicking their butts! There's no challenge to it!

USC? I would remind you of.....the Miami Hurricanes! They were tough! They were champs! They were indestructible. Then one day tragedy struck. THEY HAD TO JOIN A REAL FOOTBALL CONFERENCE! Play against tough competition every week. Haven't heard from them since. USC may win some championships, but as long as they play in the Lack-10, no love from me.

And in case anyone is curious, yeah, I'm teasing you all.

I'm confident my Seminoles will take the ACC in the next two years. Jimbo Fisher + the greatest coach in Division I history + typically excellent recruiting class = another bad night in Miami for you. But please when we do come to your new house, at least put something on the board. 48-0 is hard to watch no matter who you're pulling for. Then again, so is "Wide Right".

Other than that, Illinois will be back in a big way this year - pulling some big upsets I think. Also hoping for better luck this year for the Oregon Ducks, my annual Pac 10 pick.

"Dadgummit"

I've always like the wide left myself. Maybe we will have another wide right Oct. 4.

That's not why they aren't amazing now.

So the Boston Celtics, playing in the vastly inferior Eastern Conference in the NBA get no love from you even though they were, by far, the NBA's best team? Alright, I see your logic...

And in case anyone is curious, yeah, I'm teasing you all.

:) It's all in good fun until a UCLA/Notre Dame "fan" comes on the board.

Did the Celtics win the NBA title? I kind of lost interest somewhere around the 34th week of the playoffs.

Don't forget Tennessee. Most humorless fans ever!

all i've got to say is that the Dawgs have a good shot at being in the big game at the end of the year, but this is all guessing at this point.

i do hope to see Stafford in the heisman race

Interesting. The Dawgs boot five players and the Buckeyes boot two.

Actually the Dawgs only suspended them, not completely booted them
I think the total is an extremely embarrassing 6 now :(
Some for the first 2 games, some just the opener
Thankfully it is 2 non-conference games

Ohio State dealt with at least 2
Penn State has had their issues as well
Oklahoma dismissed a prize recruit
Hard to keep up with it all

On top of that, USC is losing Sanchez for a while with a knee injury

For the Dawgs... they have lost a safety to injury and Knowshon Moreno is nursing a shoulder for a while in practice

We (Washington State Cougars) will be trawling the bottom of the Pac-10 with a new coach and new quarterback.

Maybe it will be some break out and we will dominate. Yeah, maybe. :p

Poooooor Aggies! Must suck to be the red-headed stepchild of the state. :)

The Aggies are one of the great wannabe programs of all time.
Always the dark horse favorite, on the cusp of greatness, this is their year... and so on and so forth.
Great fan base, great tradition, great atmosphere... but the Aggies are the South Carolina of the Big 12.

With that in mind, it is time to pick 'em!!

Who do you like for the Conference Championships?

ACC - Atlantic - Clemson over Wake Forest
ACC - Coastal - Virginia Tech over a surprising NCarolina
Overall ACC Champ - Clemson, finally

Big 12 - North - Missouri over Kansas and surprising Colorado
Big 12 - South - Oklahoma over Texas
Overall Big 12 Champ - Oklahoma, again

SEC - East - Dawgs over Gators
SEC - West - Auburn over LSU
Overall SEC Champ - Dawgs

Big 10 Champ - Ohio State by default

Pac 10 Champ - USC, if they can beat Stanford this year

Big East Champ - West Virginia, barely over several teams

Bonus- WAC Champ - Fresno State, it is their turn... Boise and Hawaii had theirs

Notre Dame's 2008 Record - 6 wins for the over/under

I think this year for the Big 12 the wild card will be Texas Tech. A very unpredictable team. This year I exect them to beat Texas in Lubbock. Beat A&M again (big shocker there), OSU should be a cake walk because it is in Lubbock. OU will be the hard game.\

Baylor is not listed because well they are the joke of the Big 12.... Loose to them and lose all respect.

I think this year for the Big 12 the wild card will be Texas Tech.

You could be right... if they hold up all season they can certainly give Oklahoma a run. I think they can beat Texas, but it is a huge psychological hurdle for them. If Crabtree and Harrell light it up again this year, then they have a shot. But is the defense strong enough to play with OU?

Oklahoma is playing with a BCS monkey on its back. They could be ripe for picking if Texas Tech stays focused.

As a notre dame fan, I resent that!! ;)

But seriously. How is Michigan in the top 25? Who's playing QB? They have a lot to prove in my book after their "elite" team, the team that was going to win an NC, had a pretty miserable season (considering expectations. I know that I shouldn't be talking about miserable seasons as an ND fan...).

Anyway, we'll have to see how this new Michigan team looks, but I still wouldn't rank them top 25.

But seriously. How is Michigan in the top 25?

I would say the reasons are probably...

1. Past reputation/history <tarnished by Appalachian State, et. al. in my opinion>
2. Everyone's love affair with Rich Rod <puke, barf, so sue me>
3. Default <lack of any team to step up to be there instead of them>

They are an unknown quantity to be sure... especially at QB and the system Rich Rod will run
<it has to be his way and his system you know>

I see a lackluster season in their future... so ND better get them while they can!

Flukes do happen, but this "we're the better team even though we lost" crap is a lame argument because there's no way to prove it. The only way to prove anything is on the field. You might be the best team in the history of college football (which USC fans constantly reminded me prior to our Rose Bowl game), but if you lose the game, who really cares? You might technically still be the best ever, but the #8 squad who lost two games could make the argument that both those games were flukes, and they're the best too. Anyone can make that argument - and who can refute it?

If you can't get it done on the field, stop talking. Otherwise, why even play the games if you're going to throw out any result you don't like?

Unfortunately, I do not have high expectations for Virginia Tech this season. I am encourage that 99% of our class last year was red shirted, but that makes this year a building year. Next year I will certainly be excited to see what they do. Having said that, I had chalked up a season or two over the past several seasons to building years only to be surprised and rewarded with conference wins. :)

Meanwhile, I'm torn over who I'd like to see win our conference. Honestly, Clemson probably has the best chance, but to avoid my co-worker prattling on about their greatness, I'd like them to lose. Although, I'd take them any day over either FSU or Miami. Maybe a surprise UNC?!
