2008/9 COLLEGE Football Thread

Dammit, I'm gonna have to agree with Badandy again. :D

I think there's no way to rank Utah, Florida, and USC in the top three. Put them in any order you wish, and I wouldn't necessarily disagree.

That's why we need a playoff.

You have to be a total goof to think Utah should be ranked higher than Florida.Utah plays in one of the weakest conferences in the nation.Florida not only plays in the strongest conference,SEC,they also play in the state of Florida, the best state in collegiate football.Utah plays against teams like Weber State, and Air Force.....The SEC on any given year had at least a half a dozen teams that can play for the championship, the only thing stopping them,is that they have to play each other.Other conferences around the country, including *gasp* the Big 10 and Big 12 are made up of about 2 or 3 good teams, and a bunch of nobody's.
Playing in the state of Florida in addition to the SEC,Florida on a yearly basis has one of the toughest schedules in football.

Sorry to see the season's over. Frankly, I thought last nights game was a let down and an overall bad production. I've never seen such a herky-jerky game, there wasn't any fluidity. And the commentators were clowns... losing track of downs, brown nosing the ol' Tebow, problems with highlights...

And to all you armchair hypocrites who say the BCS system sucks and Utah should be #1... dudes, THAT IS the very essence of the BCS system! Utah never played Florida and yet you know they are better than such and such a team. How do you know? How is that any different than any other poll?

Hasn't the SEC won three straight National Titles? And six of 11 BCS National Title games?

Can't argue with winning.

Well folks it has been another year of College Football. The trials, the tears, the laughter, the sorrow........

***Damn you Florida Gators***

So let the sh*t talking begin about who will be king for next year. We all now the final standings, like them or not it is what it is.................

How many days until the next season anyways?

Too long, my friend, too long.

With that said, I am so proud of what my Utes accomplished this year. If you had told me if they would wind up #2 at the beginning of the season, I would have told you you were crazy.

Go Utes!

.....The SEC on any given year had at least a half a dozen teams that can play for the championship............

And non automatic qualifying conferences (no matter how strong they are) have none. That's the big problem, it's not because they aren't good enough to compete, it's that they aren't permitted to play for the title.

I don't think that anyone here can look at the level of play in SEC championship, the Sugar Bowl, and the Game last night and say Utah wouldn't have an excellent chance to beat Florida. At least not if they are honest with themselves.

But they didn't have a chance to beat Florida, they weren't allowed to even play Florida. I think Urban Meyer knew his team wasn't the best last night, I mean he's the cockiest coach in college football and he has had no problem in the past saying there are none better than his teams. But last night he declined to say whether or not he thought that there was another team 'cough' UTAH 'cough' that was better and that should have been playing for the title. If he didn't think so, he would have come right out and said so believe me!

The BCS is going down, and soon. Mark my words!

Hey we'd play em if they would agree to schedule us. It's not our fault if we have trouble getting the big teams out to play us. It's probably because we have an overwhelmingly winning record against BCS schools. And that if Florida had played us and lost this year, even though we were top 10 for a good chunk of the season, it would have hurt them worse than losing to the unranked team they did.

I ask you this, how do you know Florida would beat Utah. Seems a lot of folks were certain that Alabama would beat Utah, but we all know how that turned out don't we. I think (though I'd never claim to be certain) that Utah could beat Florida on any given day, I think that they have that much of a better team. My Utes were coached by Urban Meyer just before he went to Florida, and I can honestly say that I'd rather have Whittingham as our coach right now. I've no doubt that if the BCS powers that be had balls and souls, and let Utah rightfully play for the title, we'd be celebrating our first National Championship this morning at the U of U campus.

But without a playoff it's all speculation on both sides of the argument, and that does indeed make the BCS suck! With a playoff, we'd have an undisputed Champion every single year. You don't win, you don't get to be Champion, that's a novel idea isn't it?

I'm off to buy my Utah 2009 National Champions sweatshirt now. (Yes they are out there, and no it's not the University that printed them).

Read the comments section following any story about last nights game to get a feeling for whether America thinks we crowned our college football champion last night!

This is silly.......

Look at Utah's schedule, its a veritable who's who of football nobody's and underachievers. With the exception of Bama.

USC and Texas have a much stronger argument for the #1 spot,Utah is lucky to be #2.There's dozens of teams that would go undefeated with that weak schedule.I think my high school would have made a run for it against those teams.

Well we already know Florida would have trouble with teams like Oregon State, they did lose to a team which was unranked ya know!

Utah is the only team in the Nation who doesn't have to explain a loss. We beat 2 teams that finished the season in the top 10, and those two teams possess the #2 and #5 ranked defenses in the nation. We beat them, and Offense is our weak spot!

Sorry, but you lost all credibility when you said there are dozens of teams that could go undefeated with that schedule, well unfortunately for you, Utah is the only one who did this year. USC couldn't, because the team they lost to was on our schedule and we beat them. And seeing how Texas struggled with Ohio State, I really don't think they could either. I don't think Florida or Oklahoma could get all the way through the MWC undefeated, they'd have to play Utah afterall!

Your pathetic understanding of the game, and SEC snobbery is really showing now!

You do know that our "Weak" conference is undefeated against the SEC this year right?

I don't know, admitedly I'm miffed about the way this season ended. But does anyone else think that this college season kinda feels like a letdown overall?

SLC

Not me. The Utes getting #2 is a huge step towards getting rid of this BCS nonsense. After watching all the bowl games, I'm convinced Utah could beat these teams and be #1, but I'm happy for what we got. #2 is more than I could have imagined.

No, I agree with you 100%. I'm totally blown away at what the Utes were able to accomplish this year. And I do think that this may have been the dagger in the heart of the BCS. Now we just need to wait for it to bleed out!

But outside the Utes, the college season as a whole seems like a letdown. Each of the historically great teams found a way to slip up somewhere, Oklahoma was great all year, and I don't fault them for their loss to Texas at all. But I do fault them for their loss to the Gators, even though I was pulling for Florida to win. Oklahoma (the team with a 65 point scoring average in the last basically half of the season) only scores 14 in the Big game, that's a huge letdown and sorta sums up the season as a whole.

2009 will forever be remembered as the year where the Title was in question, and the Big Boys choked a big one as far as I'm concerned.

I just finished seeing the VCR recording of the game last night and I'm convinced that bad luck and a couple of sequences of poor play calling did in the Sooners.

yea i agree. the game was controlled bu OU imo. just couldnt execute within the 5yd line lol

owell, the winner takes advantage of those mistakes and clearly florida knew how to capitalize

YES! Of course, that's just because Michigan had so many seniors leave and so many freshman start. I think that Rich Rodriguez will do a good job with the team, but it will take some time.

Next season, Michigan will take over!
