Now that the numbers are in and a semi-nanimous shout of 'I'm keeping my early 2008 2.8 octo' has been spoken... what are some of the ways to invest a little capital into our 2008 MPs to get the most bang for our buck. As for mine, I am going to add a second drive and bootcamp a version of windows. Also, 16gb of ram is looking to be a relatively cheap upgrade. What are going to do to help future-proof your mac pro investment?
Replace main drive with a 300g velociraptor 10K drive or SSD drive. Move existing drive to scratch disk or extra storage drive.
I would buy a pair of SSD's and run them in RAID 0... probably the most impact you can have... Period!
One Last Thing... Is it feasible to replace a pair of 2.8 xeons with a pair of 3.2 xeons? I can't even find where to buy them...
From reading a hardware document (It was leaked and was not supposed to be available), the 3.2GHz has different thermal requirements than the rest of the line. What the differences are, I don't remember, but there is a difference.
