Another option? I would not really like it, but it seems to be the new apple look.

Hmmm... any idea how legit this is?

Darthraige and old Mac Pro

Last we heard you said you'd be getting a Mac Pro on Nov.13 regardless of an update. So did you take the plunge, or is the water too "old"? :)

Incidentally, Darth's new grinning avatar reminds me somewhat of MM's avatar.

ROFTL :p:p

I'm still holding out, but I am extremely angry and disappointed with Apple for wasting yet another opportunity to update the aging machine. What's the damn holdup??!!!:mad:

I'm convinced they have it on the "Pay No Mind" list and the company's entire focus has shifted to consumer gadgetry.

I may just build my own, but that's a taboo subject 'round here. ;)

Apple can't sell systems if they don't have the parts. I think from now on people really need to be reminded that Intel's release dates aren't something to set dates by. I think alot of people waiting for Macbook Pros are going to be dissapointed come January too.

edit: On the other hand, HP and Dell are both shipping systems with Penryn in (Servers), but no one seems to have 1600MHz FSB Penryns. So the question remains where are those processors, are they going to be slower to come (I think they were listed as now-45days) and be a by-product of the binning process, or has Apple really sought the majority of them for it's workstations. Even if Apple has the supply of processors they need, there could still be issues with leopard and I guess we are past the likely time of anything before macworld now, and with other big vendors saving Penryn workstations for what seems like late december and early January, they don't need to be in a rush. There doesn't seem to be much on 800MHz FB-DIMMs either, so that might be another sticking point.

Oh boy... That design looks like a turd-on-a-stick...

I am glad that that person who submitted that hasnt replaced Ive as the head of design.
Copying the theme that has been around in PC desktops for the last 5 years is quite sad.Design, good design especially, just dont work that way.

2 part structures and materials are extremely hard to make look good. Let alone 2 such different materials. That thing would be way better if it would comletely black or aluminium.

Now it looks way too much like this :

So, apple to use that kind of design?
Uhmm...? I dont think so.

Nice design is allways good, however i'd prefer them to keep the current design and make it cheaper!

I currently have my heart set on a mac pro, but i'd love them to drop the costs with the new release which better come in macworld. Obviously I don't expect the top end to be cheaper but make the lower end more affordable!

I think you may have hit it on the head, Umbongo. I'll bet the delay has something to do with Leopard. I noticed a few articles on tech sites mentioning that the 10.5.1 update has effed up some Macbooks and some other laptops, basically rendering them useless. I convinced my sister to buy a Macbook (typing on it right now as I'm in town for the holiday) and I told her, under no circumstances should she update to 10.5.1 yet. /end tangent

Anyhow, I've also seen this forum peppered with a few folks having trouble with Leopard on their Mac Pros. Very interesting, and disappointing at the same time. So, you may be right that they are having trouble with Leopard and the new Mac Pro hardware. Since it's nearing the end of the semester I would be too busy to enjoy a new Mac Pro anyhow. I'm surprised that, even after delaying Leopard there are still so many problems. And to head off any comments against that, I'm not "blasting" Leopard, just stating what seems to be pretty obvious. Leopard runs ok on my Powerbook but Mail is just jacked up. Doesn't close, locks up, etc.

Let's hope that when the Mac Pro comes out, it runs flawlessly.

Ooh, I like the top one! I think I'll get that instead of a Mac Pro, no matter what's inside.

Yea but the biggest difference between those and ANY thing apple would design is that those peecees look so fugly because they are molded from super-el cheapo silver-and-black-colored P L A S T I C, and Apple would use something similar to the machined aluminum they now use..... a BIG difference, not only in appearance, but quality & durability as well

Plus all the peecees try to cram so many stupid unused ports & connectors on the front, which adds to the slapped-together, mass-produced POS crapola script-kiddie toy look. Something Apple would never do..............
