I bought a 2008 MacBook 3 days ago. In the info panel the battery is
Charge Remaining (mAh): 2091
Fully Charged: No
Charging: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 4047
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 331
Condition: Normal
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): -1410
Voltage (mV): 11512
If i close the MacBook and does not shut it done completely the bat. discharges as i would work on it.
My guess is the MacBook fails to go to sleep for what ever reason or is it a bat problem. The screen does not go to sleep when closed either???
Pls help as i still can return the maschine within the next 3 days!

Usually caused by the magnet missing from behind the screen bezel or a faulty led assembly.....

What happens if you choose sleep from the Apple menu or hit the power switch and choose sleep from there ???

Hi Iogana thanks for the advice so far
Tried to put it to sleep with power button, worked, but after 20 min still 2% power loss. When i opened it afterwards i had to start it manually it did NOT wake up with opening the lid??:(

Let it sleep for an hour now and it is down to 94%!
At this rate it would be empty within half a day even on sleep.

Is it really sleeping - does the white led on the front slowly cycle from bright to almost off, does the screen go off, can you hear the hard disk stop ?

hi logana
yes if i sleep the book with power button led dim- cicles (funny word) and apple is of. HD also stops after a few sec.??
It looks like the bat to me but why?

The battery is in pretty poor condition - 80% capacity

What you really need to do is calibrate the battery - pull the charger out and let the MacBook battery run all the way down till you get the "running on reserve power" warning and then charge the battery back up to full charge again.

Repeat this and then have a look at the Coconut battery stats - they will probably be different.

A MacBook should sleep with battery power only for days and certainly not hours. From your earlier posts it sounds as if the battery will lose charge even with the MacBook switched off.

It may well be time for a new battery.....

Hi logana

Did already, unwanted though, the deep discharge cicle when i left the book without charger. How much more will these deep discharge circle damage battery.
I left the book overnight without charger, 18% loss in 7h

Hi logana
Brought mac back today it was a missing magnet there are 2 on top of the screen to keep the lid shut and one on the left side of the screen to activate sleep mode.
Thanks again
P.S Seller even throws a new battery in:)

The magnet on the left side that triggers the sleep switch often gets lost when the screen is replaced.....

The new battery is a big of a bonus - so now you should have no problems !!!
