Hi there, seeking some advices and insights

I'm an avid MacBook collector. currently on the hunt for early 2008 MacBook Pro 15 or 17 inch. surprisingly (or not really) I don't find many of these for sale, locally in my country (Singapore) nor on eBay. I reckon it is due to the high retail price of these machines at that point in time.

What should I look out which I see one for sale?

thanks.

I saw several of these for sale in the Boston area this past summer. I have one of these myself (17) but the display or backlit died though it can be used with an external monitor.

Getting them to Singapore, though, would be a considerable challenge unless you're willing to come to visit. I would guess that you could get a variety of these things in various working and non-working condition. There are probably recycling places that have them too.

The early 2008 MBPs had GPUs that were made in a faulty fashion (AMD Rebrandeon 8600 IIRC). Many different computer manufacturers were bitten by these faulty parts. Probably why you can’t find any/many early 2008 MBPs.

I reckon too. Today I happen to go to my local used computer mart. They have a MacBook Pro 15, core duo. Which I assumed is a 2006 model. However she was asking for a very hefty price or $200+!l sgd

Prior to that, I did actually saw that has a PowerBook 17 inch

We have 2 2007 MBP 15s and 1 2008 MBP 17 and we had a total of six logic board replacements between them but the last replacements fixed the graphics as these all still work. We haven't used the 2007 MBPs though I have toyed with the idea of upgrading them. The downside is that the resolution isn't something that I'd consider usable. I am hoping to go to Singapore in 2020, and, if you're still looking for these, I think that I could bring one along.

Yes, do let me know when you are in town. We could work out something:)
