well the iPhone 3G has many many issues sadly... many are software issues soon to be addressed like the lack of a voice dialer, and video recorder.
however back to the topic.
I own a 2007 Scion tC LE 2.0 with iPod connector and line out aux. it used to charge my ipod touch just fine, however the 3G will not charge off of the connector. you can still do all the music stuff with it, however (and this was true for the touch as well) there are stability issues. occasionally when changing songs it gets confused and plays a totally different song off of a totally different playlist. repeat function does not work, and then when you hit the end of a playlist you have to re-select the playlist to get it to play again... lame.
now i have to test if i can port the incoming audio of calls thru the data connection to my car stereo (hand free) which would be ideal even tho i would have to use the iPhone speaker for my side of the convo. or if i have to use the line out (aux) to do that, leaving the data port open for charging, but losing my ability to safely browse my music in the car. again...lame.
Hopefully time will fix most of these issues. otherwise i like the iPhone. Has alot of promise...and its a good PDA. i just wish Apple would stop being nasty.
I'm a little baffled, as my tC says that it doesn't charge my iPhone...
and on another note, since that cable is so short, how do you answer your iPhone with the use of the cable? Speakerphone or BT?
You loose control within the iPod application, however, all other functions are unaffected (except sound now plays through the car speakers). However, there is an option in the radio to change the mode where you can use the iPod controls as you do normally, however, you loose the information display on the radio and loose the ability to control the device using the steering wheel controls.
Hope this answers your question. Still waiting for a USB charging cable so that I can upgrade to a 3G
I have an '08 tC with the factory NAV unit. The HU won't recognize the 3G being connected to it. I was going to try a Griffin Passport (I think) to get it to work.
