Howdy

I’ve been reading the bonkers out of this forum in preparation to upgrade my Mac Pro.

I know if I put a 5.1 dual cpu system in my 4.1 (2009) I will have fan issues.

Question is can I swap a 5.1 logic board in, as well? And eliminate this issue.

Will the 5.1 logic (backplane) board eliminate the need to upgrade 4.1–>5.1 EFI?

If you swap BOTH logic board and CPU tray, that will be OK, and no flash required.

But usually buy a complete 5,1 is cheaper and easier.

Have you looked at the prices of these parts? Doing so will be very, very expensive.

I agree with h9826790. You are much better off buying a dual 4,1 or dual 5,1 and selling the 4,1.

I was actually able to secure both pieces for a total of 450 from ebay - the tray has two X5675's in it - so a good ways towards the top end - when I calculate in some savings I will get from a promo they had, I am in for about 380 for all of it. A single X5675 is $50 (bare)
