I agree, there was an issue about MOSFETS that still needed to be covered, would be nice to know if it was a problem after all or what he did to solve this.
Still, according the posts and pics of raziel777 and unethical (see page 44 for pics raziel777) it seems they agree the pins are on the board, not on the chips. Also the CPU's look like the ones you posted described as LGA ones. It means Mac Pro 2009 uses LGA CPU's, right?
Hmm, OK. Yep, I guess they're LGA. I thought the pin he bent was on the CPU. 😱
Good detective work! Thanks!
BTW, the pictures I posted of the PGA ones probably look different because they're engineering samples of the 7400 series 6-core xeon chips. 🙂 I guess the production models will be having aluminum spreaders and a tighter trim on the package-board.

Maybe I have a 2008 model (could of sworn it was 2009), but where exactly are you plugging in to? It's blurry, I know, but I have been at this all day with my new 4850.
Below: The two SATA ports that connect to the optical drive bay (right behind the front bezel). You can also see the hot-swap connector for Drive 1 at the top of this photo:
Are you referring to the picture above? If so, when you have the side panel off you MP you look to the left which is the front of the machine all the way against wall which is opposite the panel wall just above the height of the power button those are the SATA connectors. You can even see the power button in the photo above. Below hard drive bay 1 and to the left of the fan
I also want to upgrade my 2x2.26 Octocore Mac Pro 4.1 (2009) to 2x2.93.
What have I to care about?
Which X5570 CPU exactly should I buy? BX80602X5570 ?
And which stepping? B0? B1? C1?
I would be grateful for detailed informations.
