I have an '09 MacPro with eVGA GTX285 (Mac Ed.) and two weeks ago the GTX285 card over heat and burnt out (lots of electronic burning smells and the monitors entered standby when the video signal dropped out! 😱). Fortunately nothing else in the MacPro appeared to be damaged and it worked fine with the stock GT120 card. I sent the GTX285 to eVGA and it was replaced under warranty (it's a pity I did not register it with eVGA when I bought it as I missed out on the extended 2 year warranty).
The replacement GTX285 worked perfectly initially but recently I've experienced a few graphics related glitches and driver crashes in Windows 7 64-bit under BootCamp. I've read of RAID related issues with this card running under Windows 7, but I don't have an internal RAID setup, so I'm wondering if something else was damaged by the burnt out card.
I looked at the system temps and voltages in iStatMenus and attached a screenshot -- for reference, my system is the 2009 MacPro quad-core running at 2.67GHz; when the screenshot was taken it was idle after bootup. I'm hoping someone else with an identical setup could make a quick comparison with their system and let me know if things look A-okay.
Aside from a general check, I'm curious as to why the 'CPU A' voltage is -0.05V, and why there is no 'HD Bay 1' temperature. I have HDDs in Bay 1 (stock HDD) and Bay 2. I'm assuming the readings for CPU B are zero because my system is single CPU.
I've been running Windows the last few hours and despite taxing the system greatly everything has been running smooth like it should be --- perhaps there was just some temperamental software issues causing the instability?
