2010 13"mac book pro battery swelling. How do I fix? Trackpad is floating

Hi, I think I found my new project. I found my old Mac book pro and turned it on and it works and also the trackpad works barely but I can still click and scroll. But the trackpad is lifted because of battery swelling. Is the swelling a safety hazard? How much will it cost to fix, I have no experience with this but don't care if I mess up (no warrenty, sidebar project). How should I fix this without damaging my mac. The picture file is too big to upload but the trackpad is like floating at an angle with parts of it normal and toward the keyboard it gets higher.

Yes get that battery out before it bursts, it will destroy the laptop and could burst into flames. Buy a new battery iFixit.com do decent batteries for that model Apple will no longer work on it. Stick in an ssd and it will be a good little machine

I agree, grab a new battery for install and pop in a new SSD at the same time
Easy peasy following the instructions on iFixIt, just make sure to get the right tools to use
My replacement parts came with the tools to do the job, just check to make sure

Also, be sure to have a backup even if you aren't replacing your drive
I recommend a bootable clone with Carbon Copy Cloner

Absolutely... about a dozen screws on the bottom, use a plastic spudger or your fingers to release the connection to the battery and pull it out. It's super simple.

Add an SSD and at least 8GB of ram and that machine will still be good for years.

OP:

Samuelsan gave the best advice above.
Get a new battery, GET THE RIGHT TOOLS, and change it out yourself.

You might even consider putting a small SSD in there while you have the back off.
Do both, and it should be like a new MacBook.
