Oh my GOD.....couldn't you have searched the already 47,364 threads already existing on this EXACT same question?

NO ONE KNOWS. There's your answer.

Actually the answer is very widely known...

NO

First roll outs of 4G will happen in 2011, but it won't really start to happen until 2012.

EDIT: Unless the iPhone is available on Verizon, which will have 4G starting in 2010. AT&T's exclusivity on the iPhone expires in 2010 also. So this is very possible

True you dont need 3G, you just need some form of internet. However most people with iPhones are in a 3G area and the picture is not going to go through edge, its going to go through 3G.

MMS works on EDGE, no reason it has to go on 3G ....... MMS does not require a large throughput pipe.

Yea that makes sense as opposed to serving the 54% international market (by your numbers).

Um... the 46% is derived from ONE country, not the sum of ALL other countries.

You can't cross compare the sum of one ingredient to the aggregate sum of all other ingredients.

I know the 3GS just came out and it's probably a bit premature to start speculating on what Apple will release in June, 2010. Still, this is a rumor site..

-Any chance the next iPhone will have 4G?
-Will it be opened up to other carriers?

What would make those more/less likely to occur (e.g., technology, infrastructure, contracts, etc)?

If by 4G you mean LTE then no it will not be ready by next summer. These so called 4G LTE networks are only test beds in a sense. Sprints so called 4G network can only handle 12 Mbps (ok it's not LTE but anyway) ..... but here in Stockholm the 3G (WCDMA) HSPA+ network is upgraded to over 16 Mbps. In that case it could be possible.

The rest-of-the-world may not wait to upgrade their respective networks, but Apple is a US-based company with interests in the US mobile market.

Apple derives nearly 46% of all iPhone revenue from the US market; taking that into consideration, it should be fairly clear that Apple will wait for its US mobile partner.

Apple has already started to introduce multiple models serving different markets, so I don't see why Apple can't release a 4G model at the same time they release a new 3G model.

well well well, since I am an Apple engineer working of the new iPhone (codename Maddock for it's mad skillz) I can tell you exactly what I'll be putting on the next iPhone:
FM Radio
Push-to-Talk
Pizza dispenser (will be located by headphone jack)
holographic 10x10inch projector (to share those funny youTube videos)
Wi-Fi charging (no need to plug it in!)

I am not at liberty to tell you anymore...sorry, I have already said too much

I SAID GOOD DAY!
