2010 MacBook (A1342) - Memory Issues

Hi everyone,

I've acquired a 2010 (2.4GHz) White MacBook, and bought some new RAM for it so I could run a newer OS. I got 2x 4GB and 1x 8GB DDR3 (1333MHz). I know the MacBook requires 1066MHz, but I assumed it would downclock. I installed it, and it didn't P.O.S.T.

So I thought bad RAM? No, I tried the memory in other 1066MHz MacBook's and Windows laptops, all 3 sticks boot perfectly and are detected. Which means it can't be the memory then. What could be happening?

The 2009 and 2010 MacBooks are painfully picky about the memory that goes in them. You need to have an actual PC3-8500 1066MHz stick in the lower slot at least, though I’ve found that the upper slot can be pretty much any DDR3 so long as that lower slot is a 1066.

As @MultiFinder17 said, the memory must have these characteristics, although you can try the following.

That method works in a 2010 mac mini to get 16 gb, here on my country 8gb sticks are very rare. But if you can return it and get the correct one maybe could be better.

By the way you only have to downclock one stick and put it in the right slot, the other stock will also downclock.
