you guys are all liars. you either turn off everything and ONLY have word document up or something. every time i go to an apple store and unplug one of their laptops, it has a battery life of 4.5 too. and also the same thing happens with all my friend's macbook.

I'm pretty sure it also depends on what you have plugged into the MBP too.

Even with brightness off, but with my external hard drive, mouse, keyboard, printer, speakers, and external monitor plugged in, I'll get 5-5.5 hours of surfing + music + word.

The estimated time left reflect this also. However, if I unplug all that and have brightness on half I get ~7.5 hours.

how the hell do you surf the web with brightness off, teach me :-(

I have to agree that the settings you have to have to get 10 hrs battery life are a bit unrealistic.

I can certainly say I obtain 7:30-8 every day with my i5 15" model, this is firefox, adium, itunes, some widgets, and Intel HD only usage with brightness set to 1/2 on my High-Res Glossy display, only time it would drop to any lower is if the 330m got turned on and if I catch it and quit the app it'll jump right back up.

What the machine says immediately after you unplug the charger cable is never true, the number fluctuates on me all the time, but tracking the actual time leads to similar numbers as to what Apple advertised for me.

I do not use the keyboard backlight under any circumstances either, although my battery indicator only changes 7m when I bump that to 1tick, the only level of brightness I would ever up it to for checking the position of a key quickly if it were ever necessary.

Hi

I just got my 13" MBP two days ago. In fact I upgraded from 2009 13" MBP due to the improved battery.

When I am lucky I might be able to make more than 4 hours with half brightness. But 10 hours? Seems to be much more unreasonable than 7 hrs for the 2009 model....

T

I had the same problem as you-nowhere near 10 hours and just surfing. After a week I phoned Applecare and they are sending me a new MBP. Funny feeling they have had a few complaints like mine:rolleyes:

I suspect your replacement will have the same effective battery life as the original. It's nearly all about how you use the computer.

Read the Apple battery page for info on how to get the most life from these batteries.

note that under the energy saver section, to have your battery/power adapter is set to defaults, i used to have mine set to never sleep for both battery/power adapter, and after restoring them back to default settings, i got an half to 1 hour of battery life.

by the way, how do you kno which apps use the 330m in the activity monitor?
