Hi All,

Due to personal circumstances I can't afford to pay apple tax for at least another year, and thus need to keep my trusty mid 2010 17" mbp going for a little longer.

My question is, is it worth upgrading to sierra on this machine or is it a world of hurt?

And, if so, would a clean install be better?

I use Citrix Receiver to log into a windows VM for work, which I have to say suddenly didn't work with El Capitan versions post OS X 10.11.6 (15G1108) - I had to roll back an installation with Time machine and do a full recovery to make it work, and only then using Firefox as it wouldn't work with Safari.

Many thanks in advance.

If you have to log in at work,on windows systems, make sure that system is compatible with sierra before upgrade. If it is,your own machine should do well with sierra.

Many thanks Stefan, yes it's my own machine.
The Citrix is great as it frees me from having to have a work laptop to cart around for when I work from home.
Would it be best for a clean install or does it not really matter?

As I said, before upgrading, check the compatibility between the systems. Of course a clean install will remove much junk from your system, but be sure you back up everything first.

Do a clean install. I just did on my 2011 MBA and the machine runs smoother...not quite as smooth as when it ran Lions out of box...but definitely snappier after clean install.
