Hello mac users.

I have a G5 1.6ghz with the beautiful all aluminum case. I was thinking of a new Pro Mac when Snow Leopard comes out due to the lack of PPC support. So does anyone think a new case design will follow the release of the new Pro Mac in 2010? And if so, do you think we could expect one say, January-March time line? :apple:

Agree

How can apple change the design? I think the design at the moment looks fine.

I totally agree, but considering the case is almost 5+ years old now, minus a few I/O changes and an added optical bay, I would think they would do something for 2010.

There is no reason to change the design. It's fits the number of hard drive bays, best motherboards, power supply, etc. perfectly.

I think high-end machine like MacPro should not change the design so much. Not changing the design shows more prestigious feeling, and yes as per functionality this design is good enough. In my opinion.

Great

I like the design as well. Im not going to get rid of my old one, wont get much for it, so they'll look good together side by side.

Are the next ones going to have the 6 core chips x2? I am debating if I should wait until snow leopard or just get one at the next release, whenever that is. Im still running CS 2 and would like to upgrade fairly soon to CS 4 as its causing problems with some of my clients. :apple:

I love the current look and I hope they don't change it.
They will continue to rearrange the internals to better optimize the space inside, but the outside won't see any changes unless something like another optical bay is added (not going to happen). If anything is going to happen, We'll get one or two more HDD bays.

I'm not saying that I don't like the aluminum designs, but I kind of miss the old PPC colored plastic stuff. Just a little.
But they won't change it, there's nothing wrong with it.

The current aluminum design allows much more airflow and heat dissipation than any plastic design can. Not to mention it is more "environmentally friendly".

Becktons and Gulftowns are coming in Q1 2010. Becktons have 8 cores and Gulftowns 6 cores. Next Mac Pro will have another, I'm leaning towards Gulftown because it's manufactured using 32nm process which gives better performance etc.

The Mac Mini isn't intended to be modified. That said, I do wish we could open it up by unscrewing screws instead of prying it open with a putty knife.
Anyone want to start a Mac Mini wishlist thread in the Mac Mini forum?

If Apple intended the Mac Mini not to be open, it should at least have better specs. Yes start a thread!

Need to save

I dont think I could afford to wait until May '10 for the newest chips. Its always my luck I buy something in September and they come out with a new one in a month or two later! Best time to buy the new Pro Mac would be when??? Anyone have any suggestions?

Immediately after update. Remember that you can sell Mac Pro for good price if it's just few months old. Wait if you can

Right now.

No it doesn't. Or there would be more than 8 memory slots (9 or 12) so that when you fill them up you don't get 65% of the bandwidth speed that you get with 6.
