So, did Vino know that Contador had a flat or did he drop him on purpose?

Great stage yesterday (unless you had to ride it)

Lance was caught behind the big wreck and spent the rest of the stage trying to make up time.
Actually, Lance had a front flat that stopped him. Before that he was actually ahead of Contador in that group of riders.

So, did Vino know that Contador had a flat or did he drop him on purpose?
My evil side says the latter. ;)

P.S. What happened to Cavendish today?

So Cavendish cried today. I wonder what that means.

Is it "I'm so happy I finally won", just happiness, or "I'm relieved, and crying of joy, because my victory means I'm still good"?

I say this because I never have seen him cry before.

Well, he has been criticized heavily... with his somewhat strange comments..

So, it's a huge "relief cry".

What is going on between Barredo and Costa directly after the finish today..??

So who fancies Contador today? This is my first tdF and I'm at that exciting stage where I'm getting to know each rider and diving into cycling.
From what I've gathered so far, Alberto favours the mountains and should start pushing for it this stage.

This is looking good for my predictions :)

Andy Schleck first on this stage. Contador hasn't been able to follow him. Maybe he just didn't want to. Hard to tell, but I guess he would have tried more than that, had he been able.

I was just talking about this with my buddy. He told me how upset Navarro appeared after Alberto didn't take off after Schleck - considering Navarro spent the day dragging Contador up the mountain so he could conserve energy.

Tough day for Lance... actually tough Tour for Lance. Lots of bad luck. :(

too bad for lance.
hopefully he stays in and goes for stage wins

If someone is no quitter, it's Lance.
Maybe because there is less pressure on his shoulders he might be able treat us to a beautiful stage victory.

Looks like it's going to be a 3 horse race then. Evans, Contador and Schleck.

Evans won't win - the mountains are just too hard for him and he can't make that time up in a a TT.
I'm going for Schleck, anything is better than that thick eyebrowed git winning again.

Agreed. And Schleck is really gearing up for the Yellow after finishing second last year.

I would like to see Schleck win

My buddy tells me Evans is a wheel sucker and that he can't pull away when he needs to. I was thoroughly impressed with Schleck after he put the screws to Contador the other day - I'm rooting for him as well.

It's clearly the two-horse race.
Schleck and Contador will stay glued together unless one of them have a bad day.
It does make the stages a bit strange.... and it gives others the chance to win a stage as the top two are only looking at each other.

But, some tough mountains coming up! I wonder if one of the guys have a bad one.
Otherwise we have to wait for the time trial, which makes it exciting too!

It certainly looks like a two horse race with Shleck appearing to be slightly the stronger.Denny Menchov is a possible fly in the ointment although he tried yesterday to get away and failed but he looks better for not having done the Giro this year. Today and tomorrow will sort it out I think.

It very well could have down to this. Both are good mountain riders.
Time trials are not easy either. I also say it comes down to the TT's.

and contador gets the yellow by 7 seconds, taking advantage of a technical problem on shleck's bike.
quite the sportsman! :D

well if both were riding somewhere in the back and then one has a technical failure or a crash .. then waiting would have been the thing to do

Schleck though _attacked_ and had a problem with shifting under full pressure with perhaps already 10-15 meters sprinted away ... and it needs to be said that on top of the mountain schleck hadn't lost the yellow jersey being behind only a hand full of seconds (8 or 10 something like that)
on the bottom he had what ? 30 ?

The coverage of this is terrible. I'm glad I have Eurosport. ITV is a bit rubbish.

Don't you guys find yesterday's stage wasteful?

Because of the 60 Km descent and flat ending in Pau, no GC riders would attack. Two of the largest mountains in one day but there was absolutely no action in the GC.

The expected breakaway by Lance (good for him) and another French winner.

EDIT:
Well, that was it then. Another quite boring stage. So predictable... the first 2 big mountains you get a group of riders in front of the peloton and everyone else is preserving energy for the final climb. On that final climb Schleck and Contador stick together, and Schleck gets the victory as a PR stunt for Contador.

While it was a nice gesture to let Andy take the stage, I'm still not very fond of Alberto. I really hope Schleck can pull off a great TT and win the yellow jersey.

To not be buried alive Contador had to give it.

I am happy for highres that he enjoyed it. But, this stage was so predictable. These two stayed so close together the whole Tour.... and as Contador is a far better Time Trial rider than Andy you mighty see Alberto ride very close to Andy again on Saturday.... ;)

I can't wait for riders like Gesink and van den Broeck to get better for the Tour to become more exciting. Then we might see real attacks of riders who are willing to take risks to win time.

I agree, I was really hoping Andy Schleck would somehow lose Contador and take the Yellow Jersey back but it didn't happen.

I also don't care for Contador much, the way he wins seems a little underhanded sometimes, and the way he took over leadership of his last team from Lance could have been done with a little more class, he came through like a desperate, grasping little gnome. Especially when he was dealing with a 7 time champion and ambassador of the game like Lance.

Wait - are you telling that Contador stole leadership from Armstrong?

Because it's exactly the opposite. Armstrong tried to get rid of Contador. He wasn't the leader of the team. He wasn't the world champion, as opposed to Contador. So he had to help Contador.

(Naturally, the problem also came from Johan Bruyneel, who let this happen)
