I bought my 13" base MBA last week and also bought the Apple USB network adapter for $30 so I could use my Air when in my office at work since I don't allow wifi in the building (security, deal with banks, etc) and also for when at home and copying larger amounts of data around like my music collection.

I was disappointed to find out after hooking it up that it's only 100MB capable.

Pretty let down that Apple would even have a non-1GB adapter this day and age.

I actually get over double that speed with my wireless N router at home which makes half the reason I got this thing pointless.

Is there any other USB network adapter out there that does GIG speeds and is proven compatible with the MBA and Lion and in the same price range?

USB 2 theoretical max speed is only 480Mb. The bus itself can't handle Gigabit Ethernet. The Apple Thunderbolt display does have a GigE connector, but that costs about $850 more than the 10/100 cable :(

USB2 has only a maximum theoretical throughput of 480 Mbit.

And that's still higher than the 100Mbs in Apple's USB-ethernet adapter.

@lokiju, Many of us that have/had the 2010 MBA used this. I consistently get over 20MB/s with mine, which is 160Mbs+. While that's nowhere close to USB2's max, it still vastly exceeds any real-world that the 100Mbs USB-to-ethernet adapter sees.

    See thread here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1042310&highlight=

    Can't wait for that!

    Great feedback everyone!

Wow that Thunderbolt one looks promising but I'm cringing at the thought of how much it'll cost.
