despite having ordered a 13" MBA 8/256, as I continue to use my 2010 11" MBA 4/128 fairly happily and am reading these forums, I think I should just wait until the 13" retina MBP and decide then MBA vs MBP.

the 11" is going to my brother and he's in no urgent need of it so I'll continue with the 11". main reasons to upgrade are a larger screen, battery life, and more storage. extra speed, ports, etc ate icing. but if it's a couple hundreds more, I'd pay that to have retina.

If the battery life or screen resolution was significantly improved, I'd be tempted, but I'd still hold off. My 13" 2011 MBA does everything I need it to do and the improvements on the 2012 wouldn't help me out any.

I debated getting the 2012 MBA but decided on a 2011 13" Ultimate. It was only $950 w/ AppleCare so I figured I was a head of the game. When a retina version comes out, the 2012 will drop like rocks anyway.

Where did you find the 2011 13-inch ultimate w/Applecare for $950? I've been watching the refurb store and it's nearly $1199 before adding Applecare. I'd jump on that price in a heartbeat.

I don't plan on upgrading. I'll most likely leave it 18 months. The new Air doesn't offer any new features I deem essential; my current 13 i5 256 doesn't have any real flaws that affect my usage, although I'd like it to run cooler when TurboBoost kicks in (or the GPU gets used).

I had a 13" MBA 2011 1.7i5/256GBSSD and my needs changed. I got a laptop from work (late 2009 MacBook base), I tend to use my iPad a WHOLE lot more than I thought I would with the Air, so I sold my MBA and got a Mac mini as a media server. I should have done the sale before the upgrade cycle... but c'est la vie. I'm very happy with my set-up as i doubt I'll need a new computer for... a LONG time with my media server pushing out most of my media with external drives. I'm just waiting for cheaper thunderbolt peripherals...

I've just bought a 2012 11" MBA. Having decided to get an Air I waited until the new ones were released but I can't see myself buying another for a good few years. This replaces a 2006 MacBook which replaced a 2001(ish) iBook. It's plenty possible I'll have a smaller gap between purchases this time, but I'd think it'll be a good 3-4 years at least before it's time to change.
