I always used it for Keynote presentations.

Trying to decide whether I should order a matching aluminum one now.

I did.

I still use front row when traveling and don't feel like watching crap TV on the road. I set up my MBP on a table and watch movies and such off my hard drive.

I hope Front Row can be used in Lion (perhaps copying the Snow Leopard .app and using it in the new OS). If the feature is removed, whats the point of keeping the IR port at all?

I never used Front Row since it doesn't support subtitles, so it was pretty much useless to me.

For those who use the iPhone as a remote, what do you do when the WiFi is flaky or you can't count on the venue having WiFi?

I think going forward it may be possible to use a Wifi hotspot on iphone and have mac connect to it.

Booooo. It was really nice for morning when my computer & external monitor were across the room and I wanted to start up some music or a film from bed :/ . /lazy

I think we all know why it's being discontinued. Apple would far rather you used an :apple:TV for that. :p

Set the computer up as a wireless router, and connect the iPhone to it. No extra hardware required, as long as the two are in reasonable proximity. As they would be in a home theatre or presentation.
